Phoebe
* Phoebe found her forever home with a lovely family! Yay! *
Phoebe came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. She spent an extended time at the shelter, but no owner came forward to claim her. Animal Services spayed Phoebe and made her available for adoption through their own adoption program, but nobody showed any interest in adopting her. After months of being in there, it was becoming obvious that Phoebe wasn’t happy in a shelter environment, so Animal Services reached out to us for help.
We got Phoebe out of the shelter and into a foster home where she has a very large enclosure. She is very happy to be able to stretch out, hop and explore.
Phoebe was given a clean bill of health at her vet appointment, and now she’s ready to find her forever home!
Here’s a report from Phoebe’s foster home:
“I have been enjoying getting to know Phoebe since August. Phoebe is quite a large bunny and enjoys having ample room to explore. When she first came into my home I tried setting her up in a large penned area but each morning I would find her hopping around the kitchen. She can jump really high and was determined not to be penned up! For the last few months phoebe has had free range of the guest bedroom, back hall and bathroom. Phoebe loves all the space she has to explore. She loves zooming up and down the hallway and playing with all her toys. She also enjoys all the different beds she has to lounge in.
Since day one phoebe has been a very sweet and loving bunny. Every time I walk by the hallway she rushes over and greets me by standing on her hind legs until I give her some head pets. She enjoys being pet from head to toe but her favourite is on her nose and scratches near her chin. She makes a great study buddy by reminding me to take breaks and will will nuzzle her face against my feet until I give her some attention. She also enjoys hanging out on the bed with me. This girl really loves being near her human! I think it’s important that whoever adopts her has the time to give her lots of attention and love and have her as a free range rabbit. She is also fully litter boxed trained and has come accustomed to using quite a large litter box so she doesn’t feel cramped, given her size.
Phoebe has a big appetite and really enjoys all her fresh veggies. Carrots, apples, blueberries and any leafy green are here favourite.
I did attempt to bond Phoebe with another Ladybird rabbit, but Phoebe was quite aggressive towards him even after many slow and patient bonding sessions. I think Phoebe will be fine as a single rabbit if she had a family who is able to spend a lot of time with her.
This beautiful big gorgeous white bunny is full of energy, personality and love and someone is going to be very lucky to adopt this sweet girl!”

Our fostered rabbits are housed in x-pens or similar enclosures so they have lots of room to move around when they aren’t out for floor time. Some of our rabbits are free range in their foster home.
Commercially made pet store rabbit cages are far too small to allow rabbits to stretch out and move around with ease.
Here are some great websites and photos outlining alternative rabbit housing using x pens and similar enclosures.
