Heidi
* After almost a year in foster care, and many surgeries and vet appointments, Heidi has finally been adopted! Yay! *
Heidi was rescued from Hamilton Animal Services. She had arrived there as a stray and was not claimed. We were happy to get Heidi out of the shelter and into a foster home when one became available.
Heidi is a lovely girl! She’s very friendly sweet.
At her vet appointment, it was discovered that Heidi’s big belly wasn’t being caused by her being overweight. It’s being caused by pyometra. Pyometra is a very serious infection of the uterus, and it can sometimes be life threatening. It can also be very painful, and Heidi had likely been suffering with this condition for quite some time.
Heidi had surgery to remove her uterus, and to remove several cysts and masses that were found on her uterus and ovaries during surgery. Those masses were sent away for testing, and thankfully the results showed no sign of cancer or any other issues. Yay! Heidi still had a urinary infection and an ear infection, so she had to stay on medication for a few weeks. The meds worked, and she was finally able to have the dental surgery she very much needed. She had all her teeth removed, and she’s doing great since! Heidi is now ready to find her forever home!
Here’s a note from Heidi’s foster home:
“Heidi is a sweet, affectionate kitty that’s had lots of health challenges to deal with since we started fostering her but she has been a trooper and dealt with everything that came her way. She absolutely loves people, loves sitting close and being near her humans and gives the best kitty hugs! When we first got Heidi she had to have an urgent surgery to remove her womb. Following that she had a lengthy UTI which she finally got rid of with the right medications. She developed a few fatty lumps on her tummy which have been checked out and don’t need removing. Heidi has an interesting gait due to some arthritis which is managed with pain medication and keeping her at a healthy weight. She is showing signs of early kidney disease so is also on a special renal diet to help with that. Heidi’s final surgery was a dental surgery to remove her teeth which were in bad shape. This sweet girl has been through a lot but is ready to be the sweetest kitty friend to someone who is understanding about her health journey! She doesn’t mind being around other kitties so would be fine in a house with other kitties or being by herself.”
