Gus Gus
*Jaq and Gus Gus have found a wonderful forever home with wonderful people. Congrats, cute guys!
Lady Tremaine gave birth to seven babies on November 16th, 2021. Sadly, two of the babies passed away shortly after being born. Three of the babies did wonderfully and they found their forever home together. But, Jaq became very ill when he was a few weeks old. He was bloated, sneezy and gasping for air, though he was still eating and drinking normally. He had several vet visits over the next months, and for a time, we didn’t think he was going to make it. Miraculously, he pulled through with medication, love, and dedication by his foster family and vet team. Jaq still has a chronic respiratory issue that he will likely have for life, but he is otherwise healthy. His only symptom is frequent sneezing and little chest noises that are actually super cute. He is not bothered by the sneezing at all. His brother Gus Gus also has a chronic respiratory issue, but it is much milder. These two boys are very bonded, so we’re asking they be adopted as a pair. Though they are likely not contagious, Jaq and Gus Gus should not be around other rats to be sure they don’t spread the infection.
These boys are sweet and curious babies, and though they are friendly, they’re not exactly thrilled about being handled. They would benefit from an adopter who has time to spend with them to help them bond to their humans. The boys love to chase each other in play, and then snuggle under blankets for naps.
Favourite snacks are broccoli, banana, and kale.
Please adopt Jaq and Gus Gus!
Ladybird recommends Critter Nation cages. They are hands down the most spacious, and best quality enclosure for small animals on the market. They come in single and double sizes, and can be modified and customized to create enrichment and provide comfort. Their design and solid manufacturing almost entirely eliminates the possibility of accidental escape. Critter Nation cages are available (or can be ordered) at most local pet supply stores.
Can’t adopt but want to help?
Monetary donations are always needed, but if you’d like to donate something specifically for the rats in our care, donations of rat food, small pet blankets (used for cage lining), rat hammocks and fleece liners for Critter Nation cages are very much appreciated!
