Ruby
Sometimes, love just isn’t enough. Sometimes, an animal has been abused and neglected for so long, no amount of veterinary care can help them. Sometimes, we have to say goodbye when we have only just said hello.
Ruby was skin and bones when she was found as a “stray” and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. Her entire body was infested with mites. Her ears were full of ear mites and infection. Her underside was severely urine scalded, and she had several other wounds. This didn’t happen to Ruby overnight. Someone had allowed her condition to get this bad before they abandoned her in a park.
We transferred Ruby straight from the shelter to the vet. She was started on fluids and xrays were done. Ruby was suffering from a number of issues and her prognosis was guarded. By that evening, Ruby had perked up and was eating the pellets, hay and veggies she was offered. This was a great sign. She stayed at the clinic for the night and by morning, she seemed brighter and more active. That afternoon though, Ruby took a turn and she went downhill fast. Every effort was made to save Ruby, but her broken body just couldn’t fight anymore. The heartbreaking decision was made to let Ruby go.
We’d like to thank Dr. Stubbs and the staff at Spencer Creek Animal Hospital for going above and beyond for Ruby.
Ruby, we’re sorry we couldn’t save you. We’re sorry someone neglected you so badly and then dumped you like trash. All we can hope is that you felt love from the many people caring for you in your last days. We all loved you very, very much.
Sleep well, sweet Ruby.
