Benny
* After being in our care for a little more than a year, Benny found his forever home right before Christmas! Congrats Benny! *
Benny, Chu Chu, and Lilly ended up at Hamilton Animal Services when their owner passed away. When the shelter reached out to us for help, we knew we had to rescue this trio together. Thankfully, we had a foster home willing to take in these sweet seniors.
We got him the dental surgery he desperately needed, and while he was under, a small growth just above his nose was removed.
A short while after their rescue, the trio’s foster family noticed that Chu Chu was feeling poorly. Despite getting the best vet care we could offer, her health declined very quickly. After a short vet stay, Chu Chu’s health got past the point of repair, and we had to let her go. It was suspected that Chu Chu had been suffering with lymphoma for quite some time. 🙁
After his surgery, Benny thrived in his foster home, but Lilly did not. Benny was bullying Lilly to the point that she would hide for hours on end to escape his torment. After much discussion with their foster family, it was decided that the best thing would be to adopt the two cats out separately. Benny is now ready to find his forever home!
Here’s a note from Benny’s foster home:
“Big Ben is ready to be adopted into a loving home and trust me he definitely deserves it! He came to us as Benny mind you but from the moment he stomped out of his carrier the first time we knew that he was going to be a Big Ben. Ben came to us as an old man and out of shape as he was unable to jump up to couches or even to an ottoman. He quickly regained some strength and was able to make very small but manageable jumps to lower surfaces. He gained back his vigour and loves to play in his tunnel and chase after specific toys. Ben has been a dream to foster for us, he has been nothing but affectionate and trusting the entire time he’s been with us. Getting him into the carrier has been the easiest activity as he will just walk in when you open the door for him, really can’t ask for more!
Let’s talk about a few things to introduce you to Ben. He loves to be the centre of attention and really enjoys playing even if it’s only for a few minutes before he’s laying on the ground flopping around at whatever toy you are enticing him with. After a good play session he’ll be glued to you and if you sit down you can bet that he’ll be next to you whether there is room or not he’ll find a way. Ben loves to make biscuits and look at you lovingly before he finds his perfect spot to lay down. While cuddling and soaking up pets Ben may try to lick you as he will take any opportunity he can get to give you kisses. Ben loves being by a window or to be looking out a window. If he has a spot by one he’ll definitely be there curled up in a ball. He’s a very clean cat that is always bathing so you may want to have some hairball treats nearby due to his Mainecoon style of fur.
Overall we believe Ben will make a great addition to a person’s home who needs that extra cuddle time with their cat. He will always be by your side, he will probably always be looking at you affectionately and he’s very gentle. Sometimes you may even need to show him where his food dish is and give him some company but that’s just another quirk that is Big Ben. We hope you all love him!
***Closing notes that everyone interested in adopting Ben should know. Ben has arthritis and we’ve worked within this limit to give him simple and easy access to his food on our main floor so he can avoid stairs. We have low stools set up so he can access ottomans, couches and the bed. I think it should be very important to note that he’ll struggle to be agile and jump to higher areas. If you’d like to adopt him it would be best to have a separate area that’s very easy to reach. He is truly an amazing cat to live with but he is a bit of an old man.”
