Aspen
* Aspen found his forever home with amazing people! Congrats Aspen! *
Aspen came to Ladybird from Hamilton Animal Services after his owner surrendered him to the shelter. This poor, sweet guy was covered in wounds and he was infested with mites. Aspen’s owner told HAS staff that their other rabbit had caused Aspen’s injuries.
We transferred Aspen to Spencer Creek Animal Hospital where he was seen by Dr. Stubbs, who specializes in rabbits and other small animals. Aspen’s wounds were cleaned and the next morning he was neutered. Dr. Stubbs noted that the wounds were at least a week old, and some of them were filled with puss. Sadly, it seems that Aspen had been left to suffer after being so brutally attacked.
In his foster home, Aspen was a champ for taking his medications and he healed up perfectly! He still has some staining on his feet and underside from the dirty conditions he was in before he came to us, but that will dissipate with time.
Aspen is now ready to find his forever home!
Here’s a note from his foster family:
“Aspen is a joy. He figured out the litter box within two days of being with us. After three days, he was binkying around the room. He’s a very happy boy, and is the one of the friendliest bunnies we’ve ever fostered. He has an entire room to himself, and he takes full advantage of all the space. He loves to pick up and throw around his toys, which is hilarious to watch. At first he wasn’t interested in petting, but now he loves it.
Romaine lettuce, kale, and dandelion leaves are his favourite treats. Not sure if he would get along with another rabbit given the trauma he suffered, but if his adopters were willing to be very patient and follow all the proper bonding guidelines, Aspen might like to have a friend. Overall, Aspen is a really lovely bunny.”
* Aspen has been vaccinated against Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHDV).

Rabbits need lots of space…
Our fostered rabbits are housed in x-pens or similar enclosures so they have lots of room to move around when they aren’t out for floor time. Some of our rabbits are free range in their foster home.
Commercially made pet store rabbit cages are far too small to allow rabbits to stretch out and move around with ease. Here are some examples of great enclosures, and rooms set up for free roaming bunnies.
