Algernon
* Algernon found his forever home with a wonderful person! Woo hoo! *
Algernon was rescued from Hamilton Animal Services where he was surrendered due to allergies. At ten years old, poor Algernon’s life had been turned upside down and he was sad and confused about what was happening to him. At the shelter, Fred tested positive for FIV, but he doesn’t currently have any health issues because of it. (read more about FIV at the link below)
We were more than happy to get this sweet guy out of a cage and into the warmth of a loving foster home.
At his vet visit, Algernon was given a clean bill of health, other than he needs to lose some weight. He was started on a weight loss diet food called Saiety, and luckily, he likes it. He should stay on this food or a similar one to help him continue to lose weight.
Here’s a note from Algernon’s foster mom:
“Algernon has been an absolute delight to spend time with for the last month and a bit.
He likes to be near his person at all times, though not necessarily touching. He comes running when I get home from work, or else is waiting at the door.
He tolerates being picked up, but isn’t the biggest fan. He is alright with nail trimmings, especially since he knows he gets a treat after.
Al is friendly to visitors, coming immediately over to say hi and get a scritch. He hasn’t met another animal yet, so not sure how he would be with one.
He does need to lose some weight, and is on a satiety food diet. He yips at you when it’s time for food, which he seems to think is anytime someone is in the kitchen. Actually, he just yips all the time, just to let you know he is around. He is starting to play a bit more, which is also good for losing weight.
He is FIV positive, but with proper care, it shouldn’t be an issue.
Al is a sweet handsome boy who would love to find a home with someone to love him and give him treats (mostly the treats part).”
