Einstein
* Einstein found his forever home with lovely people! Woo hoo! *
Toronto Animal Services reached out to us for help with several hamsters that had been surrendered to them. There was one syrian hamster, Einstein, and three dwarf hamsters, Suga, Jin and V. These poor hamsters were in rough shape. They had skin issues, likely caused by poor husbandry and mites, and they were absolutely terrified of humans. It doesn’t seem they had much handling or proper care up until they were surrendered.
We were happy to get these little ones out of the shelter and into foster homes. Einstein was thrilled to have a clean and spacious enclosure, as well as proper food and snacks. At his vet visit, Einstein received medication for mites.. He was a bit thin and had a few spots of fur loss, but he was deemed otherwise healthy. After a few weeks, all the missing fur grew back and Einstein now has a luxurious mane!
This handsome boy will need a forever home where there are no small children. He is definitely not a hamster who enjoys being picked up and carried around. He’s only just begun to tolerate his foster family handling him, and though he hasn’t bitten, he will need someone who understands his boundaries and won’t insist on manhandling him. With time and patience though, he will likely become less scared. For now, exploring is his thing. He has places to go and things to see! His forever home will need to provide him with lots of time out of his enclosure for exercise and playtime. He loves his wheel, but he loves exploring more!
Ladybird does not condone the use of plastic hamster balls. They are dangerous and detrimental to a hamster’s physical and mental wellbeing. Small animal exercise pens, or enclosed areas that are free of escape routes are the best way for hamsters to explore safely.
Please adopt Einstein!
Hamsters need space…
Hamsters need more living space than the typical “hamster cage” you’ll find at local pet store. Here are some examples of fantastic hamster enclosures that give hamsters room to explore, burrow, and live their best hammy life!
