Daphne
* Daphne and Hershey have been adopted by a wonderful family! Woo hoo! *
Daphne came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. It’s more likely that she was an unwanted Easter gift who was dumped by her owner. Daphne is one of the lucky ones who survived being abandoned. Aside from all the other dangers faced by dumped domestic rabbits, white colouring makes a bunny a much more visible target to predators. We’re glad Daphne made it through her ordeal and was brought to the safety of the shelter.
Once a foster home opened up, we were happy to get Daphne out of the shelter. She’s enjoying all the space she has been provided, and all the snacks!
We had Daphne spayed, and when she healed, her foster home began the bonding process with another Ladybird rescued bunny named Hershey. After slow and patient introductions over the span of a few weeks, Daphne and Hershey became the best of friends! Now that they’re ready to find their forever home, we’re asking they be adopted as a pair.
Here’s a note from their foster mom:
“Little miss Daphne is full of energy and personality. She loves to run around in her area, run through tunnels and hide-outs. She likes to eat lots of bunny safe chew toys. Her favourite foods are dandelion leaves and cilantro.. well basically any green leafy vegetable you put in front of her she will devour. And this adorable sassy girl will let you know when she’s hungry for more by stomping her foot for you to hear or she’ll pick up her empty dish and bang it around. She’s quite the character. Daphne also loves stretching out in her bed for naps and this is her favourite time to be pet and adored. And gosh she really is easy to adore! Daphne is fully litter boxed trained and is used to having a large living space. Daphne shares that living space with her trusty best friend Hershey.
Sweet Hershey loves to be snuggled up to Daphne and is always one hop behind her. Hershey also enjoys being cuddled up with his human and enjoys pets from head to toe. Hershey has such a sweet, soft and gentle demeanour. He also enjoys having his chocolate coat brushed which makes for the perfect bonding session. Hershey loves his leafy greens and has a sweet tooth for all bunny safe fruits. Which makes sense given how sweet he is! Hershey is also litter box trained with the odd miss.
These bunnies really compliment each others personalities perfectly so it’s no wonder they bonded so quickly! Anyone who adopts Daphne and Hershey should consider themselves lucky!”
* Daphne has been vaccinated against Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHDV).

Rabbits need lots of space…
Our fostered rabbits are housed in x-pens or similar enclosures so they have lots of room to move around when they aren’t out for floor time. Some of our rabbits are free range in their foster home.
Commercially made pet store rabbit cages are far too small to allow rabbits to stretch out and move around with ease. Here are some examples of great enclosures, and rooms set up for free roaming bunnies.
