Hershey
* Daphne and Hershey have been adopted by a wonderful family! Woo hoo! *
Hershey and several other rabbits were dumped outdoors in a rural area of Hamilton. For many reasons, domestic rabbits generally do not survive on their own in the wild, so the person who abandoned them in this way basically set them up for death. Thankfully, kind people were able to round up the rabbits and bring to Hamilton Animal Services. Because the bunnies were males and females, they were separated at the shelter.
When he arrived, Hershey was in rough shape. His back end was so matted that HAS staff had to shave him down, and he had a wound on his nose that he was given medication for.
Hershey is a lovely bunny. The scar on his nose has healed, and he is in good health. We had Hershey neutered and when he healed, his foster home began the bonding process with another Ladybird rescued bunny named Daphne. After slow and patient introductions over the span of a few weeks, Daphne and Hershey became the best of friends! Now that they’re ready to find their forever home, we’re asking they be adopted as a pair.
Here’s a note from their foster mom:
“Little miss Daphne is full of energy and personality. She loves to run around in her area, run through tunnels and hide-outs. She likes to eat lots of bunny safe chew toys. Her favourite foods are dandelion leaves and cilantro.. well basically any green leafy vegetable you put in front of her she will devour. And this adorable sassy girl will let you know when she’s hungry for more by stomping her foot for you to hear or she’ll pick up her empty dish and bang it around. She’s quite the character. Daphne also loves stretching out in her bed for naps and this is her favourite time to be pet and adored. And gosh she really is easy to adore! Daphne is fully litter boxed trained and is used to having a large living space. Daphne shares that living space with her trusty best friend Hershey.
Sweet Hershey loves to be snuggled up to Daphne and is always one hop behind her. Hershey also enjoys being cuddled up with his human and enjoys pets from head to toe. Hershey has such a sweet, soft and gentle demeanour. He also enjoys having his chocolate coat brushed which makes for the perfect bonding session. Hershey loves his leafy greens and has a sweet tooth for all bunny safe fruits. Which makes sense given how sweet he is! Hershey is also litter box trained with the odd miss.
These bunnies really compliment each others personalities perfectly so it’s no wonder they bonded so quickly! Anyone who adopts Daphne and Hershey should consider themselves lucky!”
* Hershey has been vaccinated against Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHDV).

Rabbits need lots of space…
Our fostered rabbits are housed in x-pens or similar enclosures so they have lots of room to move around when they aren’t out for floor time. Some of our rabbits are free range in their foster home.
Commercially made pet store rabbit cages are far too small to allow rabbits to stretch out and move around with ease. Here are some examples of great enclosures, and rooms set up for free roaming bunnies.
