Happy
* Happy found his forever home with a wonderful family! Congrats Happy! *
Happy came into Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. No owner came forward to claim him. Happy had a lot of health issues. He was not neutered, his teeth were bad, he had blood in his urine, and to top it off, Happy was heartworm positive. This poor dog had many strikes against him, he ended up on the list to be euthanized. Thankfully, HAS staff had fallen in love with Happy, and they reached out to us for help. A foster family stepped up, and we were all thrilled to be able to get this sweet, sweet boy out of the shelter and to the safety of a loving foster home.
Happy was put on medication that cleared up the urinary infection, and then he went through the months-long heartworm treatment. We’re so thrilled to say he’s now heartworm free! The heartworm has left him with an occasional chronic cough. It’s not serious though, and does not require any medication or treatment at this time. Happy is now neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all his vaccines.
Happy’s foster family tell us that he is the bestest boy. He loves everyone he meets and gets along with the other animals in the home. He is almost 100% housetrained now, but he may need a little help with marking in the house, especially if there are other dogs around. Nothing that can’t be worked on with this sweet boy who is eager to please!
Here’s a note Happy’s foster family wrote:
“Hello, my name is Happy! Let me tell you about my crazy life.
First things first, I found myself all alone in a shelter. Wow, was I ever afraid, but the staff there made it a lot easier for me. I settled in and got to know some friends. During my checkup at the doggie doctor, I heard someone say I had heartworm. Oh boy, I didn’t know what that was but it sounded scary!
My foster mommy decided to take me home until I got better. I was happy to finally have both dog and cat siblings, we have all become very close. I also got to meet many of my foster mommy’s grandchildren, what a joy they are to be around! They give the best cuddles.
My foster mommy told me I’m not like other beagles, I am not a chewer and I am very easygoing/calm. I also never bark! My favourite thing to do is lounge around and cuddle. If you’re a couch potato, we’ll be best buddies! I’ll have to admit though, I’m a sneaky boy when it comes to snacks! I would thrive in a family that’s easygoing and is looking for some serious cuddles (they’re my favourite thing).
When I finally finished my heart worm treatment, I got neutered, and my teeth have been scaled and polished. My foster mommy says my pearly whites are beautiful once again (and boy, do I feel as handsome as ever).
Now, I’m off to start a new chapter of my life. I really am a good boy and I am hoping to find a forever family of my own, just like my other doggie friends. I have wished for this my whole life and my foster mom said it’s coming and to be patient, but I’m just so excited.
If you are as interested in meeting me as I am to meet you, please fill out an application. In the meantime, I’ll be snacking on some liver bites (my favourite). See ya later!”
