Dutchie
* Dutchie has been adopted by his foster family! Yippee! *
Someone left a box full of gerbils in front of a pet store in Hamilton. Store staff found the box and called Hamilton Animal Services to pick them up. There were a number of gerbils in the box, including five newborn babies. HAS reached out to us for help, and we were able to take in four female gerbils and the five babies.
Thankfully, all the gerbils seem to be in good health, despite being abandoned the way they were. In their foster home, they’re enjoying the large enclosure, proper care, and love they’re being provided.
Sunflower raised her babies perfectly, and now that all the gerbils have been given a clean bill of health at the vet, they’re available for adoption!
The males – Dutchie, Cruller, and Danish were being housed together, but after a few months in foster care, Cruller and Danish passed away suddenly. We’re not sure what happened, but Dutchie is thankfully still in good health and is doing well. We’re hoping he can find a forever home soon.
The bedding in Dutchie’s tank is very deep, which allows him to make intricate tunnel systems to run through. He loves to run in his wheel. Gerbils are a lot of fun to watch, and with enrichment and the proper enclosure (a large tank with a secure lid is best), they can enjoy their best life.
