Didi
November 30, 2022
We had to say goodbye to sweet Didi. Since the last update, Didi’s health went downhill. The ultrasound performed the week before showed a mass on her kidney, and the biopsy of the facial scabs had come back as cancerous. Though these two things would have been an issue, we still don’t know exactly what was causing the infection in Didi’s system that was making her so ill. She spent three days at the vet clinic, and though she received every available treatment possible, she just couldn’t fight all the issues that were plaguing her. At the end of the third day at the vet, Didi crashed. When we realized she was past the point of medical help, we had to let her go to end her suffering. Thankfully, Didi’s foster mom could be there with her, and we take comfort that Didi wasn’t alone at the end.
Though Didi was only with us for a few weeks, she will leave a hole in the hearts of everyone who met her.
Rest in peace Didi. We’ll never forget your sweet face.

Please send your love and well wishes to Didi.
When Didi arrived into our care, she had scabs on her face that were thought to be an old injury or skin condition. We expected with proper vet care and medication that they would clear up, but during the few weeks Didi has been with us, the scabs have not healed.
Turns out, Didi’s condition is very similar to another cat we rescued back in 2018 named Alpacino, whose facial scabs ended up being a form of cancer. So, Didi headed off to the vet last week for a biopsy. While there, blood work was done, and Didi’s levels were much different from when she first arrived, but not in a good way. She was put on medication and sent back to her foster home while we wait for the biopsy results.
Over the weekend, Didi became lethargic and was clearly not feeling well. She’s back at the vet today for more tests, and she’s been put on fluids. She’s clearly fighting something internally that our vets just haven’t been able to pinpoint yet.
We were more than prepared to help Didi through a possible cancer diagnosis, but she has to get over this hurdle first. Poor girl just can’t catch a break.
Please feel better, Didi! We’re rooting for you!

Didi ended up at Hamilton Animal Services after her owner passed away. Poor Didi was in rough shape when she arrived to the shelter. Her fur was dirty and matted, she had a cloudy eye, and she had severe diarrhea. Despite all this, Didi was very friendly, and quickly became a staff favourite. When a foster home opened up, we were happy to get this sweet old girl out of the shelter and into a foster home.
At her vet visit, it was discovered that Didi only has two teeth. She is showing many signs of being a senior kitty, (one being muscle wasting in her back end) but her blood work came back pretty good for a girl her age. The vet told us that the issue with Didi’s eye is likely scarring, but we’ll never know what caused it. Thankfully the eye is not causing Didi any pain and doesn’t need to be removed. She was started on a special diet food to help with her runny poop, and she’s now settling in at her foster home.
Didi’s foster mom is just getting to know Didi, and hopefully we can get this lovely senior girl feeling well enough that she can eventually find a forever home.
Welcome to Ladybird, Didi! We’re so happy you’re here!
