Betty
* Betty has been adopted by wonderful people! Yay Betty! *
Betty was found dragging herself down a road in Hamilton. It’s not clear how she was injured, but she was not using her back legs at all. Hamilton Animal Services was called and they picked Betty up and brought her to the vet. Xrays revealed that Betty had a severe break to her femur. She was put on pain meds while she waited for her owner, but nobody came forward to claim her. HAS reached out to us for help, and we were happy to take in this sweet girl and get her fixed up. Betty has surgery tomorrow with a vet who specializes in these types of breaks. We’re hoping all will go well with the surgery, and that Betty can make a full recovery. She’ll spend a couple of days at the vet, and then be transferred to a foster home for cage rest. Despite how she must be feeling, she’s a happy, purry girl! So sweet!
Welcome to Ladybird, Betty! We’re so happy you’re here!
This type of specialized surgery can run upwards of $4000. Your donations will help cover the cost of Betty’s surgery, and her care during the extended recovery time. Donate today!

Betty did great for her surgery! Her femur was repaired and she was spayed. She’ll be on strict cage rest for the next few weeks so she can heal properly, and hopefully get full mobility back.
Good job, Betty!

One week after her surgery, Betty is doing great! Here’s a note from her foster family: “She’s settled in well now and has become very chatty when she sees you. She’s not afraid to sass you to demand food and pets! She’s also started to show interest in playing, so it’s been a bit of work trying to keep her calm!! Today she hissed at my dog through the door, but then she also hissed at my fuzzy slippers! 🤣”
Go Betty!

Two weeks after surgery, Betty continues to do wonderfully! Here’s a note from her foster family: “She’s still a cuddly little munchkin, but she’s also starting to really show her sassy side. She’s very vocal and very playful (as kittens are). She’s itching to get her stitches out (literally) and is looking forward to having a but more freedom soon!! 🤣”
You’re a super star Betty!
March 2, 2023 UPDATE
It’s been about a month and a half since Betty’s surgery and she’s finally ready for adoption. Here’s a note from her foster family: “Betty is very excited to get the all clear to be a kitten! While she’s not 100% healed, she is now allowed to be more physically active, so she’s finally getting the chance to try out all her new toys. She’s a confident gal who isn’t afraid to sass you when you’re late for lunch – she’s a big fan of meal time! Even though Betty has loads of cookoo kitten energy, she’s been very gentle with her claws. She’s looking for a family who’ll offer her lots of playtime and a warm lap to cuddle up in afterwards.”
Betty met a dog in her foster home and did ok, so we think she will be fine with a calm dog in the house. Her vet did mention that her bone was well calloused but it wasn’t completely healed so she should avoid jumping for a bit longer.
We thank everyone who donated have been rooting for Betty! Look what love can do, indeed!
