Chester
* Chester has been adopted by a wonderful person! Yay! *
Chester was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. Despite being the handsome, dapper man Chester is, no owner came forward to claim him. During his time at the shelter, it was noted that Chester needed dental surgery, the skin on one of his back feet was sloughing off, which might have been caused by frostbite. And to top it off, Chester was suffering from severe diarrhea. Poor dude!
We were happy to get this sweet boy out of the shelter and into a loving foster home. He was immediately charming his foster mom with his loud purr and serious sweetness.
At Chester’s vet visit, he was neutered and he had several teeth removed. His mouth was very infected and sore. Unfortunately, blood work showed that Chester is positive for Feline leukemia virus (FeLV). Dental issues and diarrhea are symptoms of the virus. Unfortunately, there is currently no definitive cure for FeLV, but we can help him live his best life going forward with proper diet and medication. Chester had a follow up appointment, and our vets gave him the go-ahead to be made available! Because of his FeLV status, Chester needs to be the only cat in the home, or a home with another FeLV positive cat.
Chester was adopted, but unfortunately returned a few months later, but it was not his fault at all.
Here’s a note from Chester’s foster mom:
“Chester is the most handsome, perfect cat one could imagine.
He is a purring machine and a super cuddler. He also snores, which is adorable.
When playtime hits, he will make you laugh galloping all over the place after his toys and feathers. He also likes to chase his tail, which is always entertaining.
When it’s snuggle time, he will sometimes lay beside you with his head on your arm and gaze up at you with his beautiful blue eyes and your heart will literally melt.
When he was rescued from the shelter, this poor fella had been through the ringer.
He was more than likely a breeder, as he was still intact, and was probably dumped when he became sick.
He is confirmed Feline Leukemia positive, and one of the symptoms being gastro problems, he had a bit of a time learning how to use/reuse a litter box. He is fully confident now, although he is quite exuberant with his litter, so a high lipped litter box is recommended.
With his feline leukemia diagnosis, he is on anti-virals, probiotics and gastro food, which his new family will have to continue to keep him feeling better as long as possible. THIS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE. If he is taken off his meds and food, his health will decline quickly. The cost is about $300 for 2 months worth of food and medication.
He will also need frequent check ups at the vet to make sure he is doing ok.
Even with the cost of these meds and his reduced life expectancy, who ever is privileged enough to adopt this absolute angel will receive so much love and joy from having Chester in their lives. ”
