Ethel
* Ethel found her forever home with a lovely person! Yay! *
Ethel was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services when her owner could no longer look after her. Poor Ethel was very frightened in the shelter, but
staff did their best to make her feel comfortable during her stay. We were happy to get Ethel out of the shelter and into a foster home when one became available. She’s a shy girl, but has been slowly warming up to her foster mom. Ethel had a much needed dental cleaning, and she had a couple of small warts removed from her back. She did great for the surgery, and now she’s all healed up and ready for her forever home!
Here’s a note from Ethel’s foster mom:
“This beautiful girl is quite shy, but after a month she is getting comfortable enough to hang out in the open. She LOVES getting brushed and will come running if you give the slightest indication that maybe you might want to brush her.
She does love hiding spots and recently discovered the pop up tunnel is a great space to comfortably hang out.
Since I’ve been fostering her, Ethel has lost some of her extra weight, which is great. In her new home, she should stay on the weight loss food that has been helping her. She is on medication for mild arthritis, which will need to be continued.
Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Ethel will have to have a quiet house with no other animals or children. She will need some time to adapt and also lots of hiding spots for when she feels shy. A laser pointer and several brushes is also highly recommended.”
June update from Ethel’s foster mom:
“The wonderful thing about fostering is seeing each cat get comfortable in their space and their personality completely change as they realize they are safe and loved.
This has been so true for Ethel. She was so shy and skittish when she first moved in and it look a lot of patience and time for her true personality to come out.
I am happy to report that since she has been available for adoption, she has become a cuddle machine – full on, completely relaxed and I do believe she fell asleep on me once!
She still goes to her safe spaces for a time out, but she is out and about almost all the time and loves cuddling.
Another new trait that has come out is singing a victory song when she finally gets to claim the chair at night. I definitely thought she was in trouble, as she is so quiet and even her “pet me” meows are mostly silent. Nope, she was just celebrating!
She also LOVES the laser pointer and will go to her pop up tunnel and wait patiently until the laser comes out. She then proceeds to lose her mind and then the tunnel collapses on her, and it’s hilarious to watch.”
