Dandelion
* Dandelion and Daffodil found their forever home together! And they have another pig in their new home to be friends with! Yay! *
Dandelion and Daffodil were surrendered to a Quebec shelter by their owners. We were not told the reason they were given up. When a foster home opened up, we were happy to take in these two girls, and we’re thankful to Freedom Drivers volunteers for getting them to us safely.
When they arrived, Dandelion had several lumps that needed to be removed and Daffodil was extremely thin. They were very frightened, but were eating, drinking and pooping normally. Considering their conditions, we were thankful they had an appetite.
Dandelion had surgery to remove the lumps, and thankfully they were benign. She’s healed up now from her surgery, and she’s doing great! Over the weeks they’ve been with us, Daffodil has gained weight, and she’s feeling much better than when she arrived.
Dandelion and Daffodil are now ready to find their forever home! We’re asking they be adopted as a pair.
Because of their shy nature, Dandelion and Daffodil would do best in a quiet home with no small children. It’s clear they weren’t handled a lot in their past home(s), so their current foster family are helping them get over their fears by being very gentle with them. When it comes to snack/veggie time though, these two are not shy. Daffodil, especially, will “wheek wheek wheek” very loudly when she knows treats are on their way. They even know the sound of the fridge opening now, and they yell their excitement for what’s to come. Favourites are romaine lettuce, dandelion leaves, and kale. They also like Oxbow brand treats, and they get a daily Oxbow Vitamin C tablet to keep them healthy.
Dandelion and Daffodil are currently living in two Midwest Guinea Pig Habitats put together, and they make use of all the space. We’re asking their forever home offer the same amount of space or more, if possible. They are still a bit frightened about floor time outside their enclosure, but they’re getting better every day. It is important for them to have several places to hide in their enclosure and when they’re out for exercise, so they can feel safe.

Guinea pigs need much more room than the typical pet store guinea pig cages offer. Here are some websites that have great examples of the type of cages pigs can live happily in, so that they have lots of room to move around and explore:
