Moe
* Moe found his forever home with wonderful people and another bunny to be friends with! Woo hoo! *
During a severe cold snap in December of 2022, someone abandoned Moe outdoors. Thankfully, a kind person was able to capture Moe and bring him to warmth and safety at Hamilton Animal Services. This poor rabbit was covered in fleas, and he wasn’t in great shape. There’s no way to know how long he was living outdoors on his own, but we do know he’s one of the lucky ones who survived.
During the months Moe spent at HAS, he was flea treated, vaccinated, and neutered. Moe didn’t seem happy at the shelter, though. He was not interested in attention from the staff, and he was picky about eating. Because of the large number of rabbits at the shelter, some rabbits have to be kept in smaller cages because of lack of space. Moe was stuck in a cage that didn’t allow him much freedom to move around or stretch out. He seemed to be getting more and more depressed the longer he was there.
When a foster home opened up, we asked for the bunny who had been at the shelter the longest, and that was Moe. He moved into his foster home where he has a much larger living space. He was very happy about it! Moe got a clean bill of health at his vet visit, and now he’s ready to find his forever home!
Here’s a note from Moe’s foster family:
“Moe is such a lovely little bunny. He is very inquisitive and likes to explore around on carpeted areas and the couch. He does not like to hop around on laminate, it becomes more of an army crawl! When he’s out exploring he uses his litter box which we put in the same spot on the floor. He likes to sniff and say hello to the cats in the house and doesn’t mind occasional chaos that kids bring. He likes to hop on your lap if you have a blanket and mess it up to make a nest. Sometimes he even kisses your arm. He doesn’t love being picked up unless he feels super secure. He absolutely devours and loves mixed greens, fresh herbs and celery! He is such a sweet little bunnikins!!”
* Moe has been vaccinated against Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHDV).

Rabbits need lots of space…
Our fostered rabbits are housed in x-pens or similar enclosures so they have lots of room to move around when they aren’t out for floor time. Some of our rabbits are free range in their foster home.
Commercially made pet store rabbit cages are far too small to allow rabbits to stretch out and move around with ease. Here are some examples of great enclosures, and rooms set up for free roaming bunnies.
