Lord Nigel Featherstone
Lord Nigel Featherstone (Nigel for short) was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. This poor bird was in terrible shape. He had several wounds all over his body, he was missing feathers, he was extremely thin, and his nails and beak were overgrown. He wouldn’t perch in his cage at the shelter and would only sit at the bottom of the cage. We’ll never know what trauma poor Nigel had been through, but it must have been so frightening for him.
We got Nigel to the vet on his rescue day, and got him started on medication. Despite how he must have been feeling, Nigel loved attention and would sit quietly to be petted and talked to. Over the next few days, Nigel seemed to be improving. He had a healthy appetite and he had even started to perch in his cage, which he hadn’t done since his arrival. He certainly wan’t out of the woods, but we were glad to see this glimmer of recovery. But sadly, just shy of a week after coming to us, Nigel passed away during the night. It’s not known what caused Nigel’s death, but our vets think his little body may have had much more going on than the external ailments that we could see on the outside.
Heartbreaking as Nigel’s story is, we’re very thankful he knew love and tenderness in his final days. Especially after the trauma he had endured.
Rest in peace, Nigel. We’ll never forget you.
