Calla ended up at Hamilton Animal Services as a stray, but nobody came forward to claim her. She spent a few months at the shelter, and during that time she was spayed and vaccinated. When a spot opened up, were were happy to get Calla out of the small cage she was in at the shelter, and into a foster home where she has a lot more room to run and explore. She’s loving all the freedom she has now, and she’s lapping up the attention she’s getting from her foster mom.

A month after we rescued Calla, we rescued a bunny named Cauliflower, and he went to the same foster home as Calla. Over the next few months, their foster mom patiently and carefully took proper steps to attempt to bond the two bunnies, and it worked! Calla and Cauliflower are now best friends, and very happy to have each other for company. We’re now asking they be adopted as a pair.

Here’s a note from Calla and Cauliflower’s foster mom:
“Calla and Cauliflower are a newly bonded pair with fun personalities. Calla is food motivated, feisty and loving. Cauliflower is calm, sweet and playful. Both bunnies are friendly, curious and love attention. Their favourite hobbies include exploring the house, eating hay and lounging. They’d do best in a home with loving people and lots of space / free roam time.”

Rabbits need lots of space…

Our fostered rabbits are housed in x-pens or similar enclosures so they have lots of room to move around when they aren’t out for floor time. Some of our rabbits are free range in their foster home.
Commercially made pet store rabbit cages are far too small to allow rabbits to stretch out and move around with ease. Here are some examples of great enclosures, and rooms set up for free roaming bunnies.
