Tostito
* Tostito and Dorito found their forever home together with the most amazing people! Woo hoo! *
Mama Tot and her four babies were rescued from a shelter in Quebec. They, along with many other guinea pigs, were surrendered to the shelter by their owner because they had too many animals. Mama Tot was very pregnant when she arrived at the shelter, and she gave birth on June 7th.
This little family came to us via Freedom Drivers volunteers, and we’re very thankful for all the wonderful people who donate their time to transport rescued animals all across the country.
Mama Tot, Miss Vickies, Frito, Tostito, and Dorito did very well in their foster home. They have a very large space to explore, and the babies were already running around and popcorning shortly after they arrived. They’re so adorable, we can’t stand it!
After a few weeks, the little family had a vet visit and they were given a clean bill of health. Thankfully, all the babies are females, so nobody had to be separated out from their mom and siblings.
Mama Tot, Miss Vickies, and Frito have all found their forever homes, and now it’s Tostito and Doritos turn! We’re asking they be adopted as a pair. Because of their shy nature, Tostito and Dorito would not be a good fit for a home with small children.
Tostito has longer hair than her sister, and she’s very shy. Unlike her sister Dorito, she won’t take treats from your hands, and is still very frightened by a lot of things. Her foster family are working with Tostito to try to help her get over her fears. Dorito is less shy than her sister, but will still run for cover when she hears a loud noise, or someone moves too quickly. They are both very sweet though, and will wheek wheek wheek when they know their daily veggies are on the way, and they’ll run and popcorn for joy when they see their foster family. Tostito and Dorito enjoy their daily veggie snacks, and they like to play hide and seek in their hay pile.
As they’ve gotten bigger, Tostito and Dorito’s hair has grown longer and longer. Potential adopters must be prepared to keep up with the mats and tangles that will enviably happen. Their foster mom has been keeping the longer fur trimmed on their undersides and sides to help lessen the tangles.

Guinea pigs need much more room than the typical pet store guinea pig cages offer. Here are some websites that have great examples of the type of cages pigs can live happily in, so that they have lots of room to move around and explore:
