Tandoori
* Taja and Tandoori found their forever home with wonderful people! Yay! *
India and Taja were rescued from a shelter in Quebec. They, along with many other guinea pigs, were surrendered to the shelter by their owner because they had too many animals. India and Taja are Mama Tot‘s older daughters. This guinea pig family came to us via One Last Chance, and Freedom Drivers volunteers, and we’re very thankful for all the wonderful people who donate their time to transport rescued animals all across the country.
When they arrived, India and Taja were only about four months old, but it was confirmed at their vet visit that they were both pregnant. We were devastated that these poor little girls were going to have babies. They’re just babies themselves!
On the morning of July 8th, India gave birth to one baby, and later that day, Taja gave birth to two. When the babies were a month old, they and their moms had a vet visit for health checks and to confirm the babies’ genders. All the guinea pigs were given a clean bill of health, and they are now ready to find their forever homes!
We’re asking that Taja and Tandoori be adopted as a pair.
Like most guinea pigs, they’re afraid of loud noises and quick movements. They don’t want to be picked up, but once they feel safe, they will relax and accept affection. The girls do well in a quiet home with a patient adopter who will be able to spend lots of time with them to help them overcome their shyness. A home without small children would be best. Taja and Tandoori love the large living space they’ve been in since arriving into our care, and they can often be seen popcorning and zooming around the enclosure. They love their daily veggies, their favourites being romaine lettuce and dandelion leaves.

Guinea pigs need much more room than the typical pet store guinea pig cages offer. Here are some examples of appropriate cages pigs can live happily in, so that they have lots of room to move around and explore:
