Milo
* Milo found his forever home with a lovely family and another boston terrier to be friends with! Yay! *
Milo was found as a stray and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. Animal Services immediately sent him to their vet because he wasn’t putting weight on his back leg. Xrays showed that Milo has a dislocated or luxated hip. They tried to put the hip back in, but it would pop out not long after. The vet put Milo on pain meds, and he was sent back to the shelter to wait out his stray time. No owner came forward to claim Milo, so Animal Services reached out to us for help. We were happy to get Milo out of the shelter and into a loving foster home with Boston Terrier experience.
Milo saw our vets, and it was determined that he needs a surgery called Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) to fix the dislocation. Thankfully he is a good candidate for the surgery because he’s young and otherwise healthy. Because this isn’t a typical surgery, a specialist vet needs to be called in to perform it. We’re just waiting to hear back about when the specialist surgeon is available. Milo will also be neutered while he’s under for the hip surgery.
For now, Milo is being spoiled silly in his foster home. He’s getting along with the other dogs there, and he’s been sweet and loving with all the humans he meets. Such a special boy!
Welcome to Ladybird, Milo! We’re so happy you’re here!
August 22, 2023 UPDATE
Milo did great for his surgery. It was a long day for him, and he was very happy to see his foster family when they came to pick him up at the end of the day. He’s on restricted activity for the next little while, and he’s on very good pain meds to help him through. His foster family are giving him lots of extra love and snuggles, and he’s lapping it all up.
The shorts he’s wearing in the photo are to keep Milo from fussing with his incision. He was smart enough to get out of the cone he was wearing when he left the vet.
And Milo’s surgeon gave him the stuffy he’s suckling in the video. So sweet!
❤️
Way to go, Milo! You did great!
September 28, 2023 UPDATE
Milo has been doing really well since his surgery, and he recently had his first rehab appointment at SOAR (Southern Ontario Animal Rehabilitation). He was a bit hesitant about the water treadmill at first, but treats definitely helped!
Milo will be available for adoption soon, and we’ll be asking that his adopters continue with his rehab visits for as long as is recommended by his veterinarian.
Way to go, Milo!
October 13, 2023 UPDATE:
Milo is ready for his forever home!
Here’s a note from his foster mom:
“Milo has been a total delight to foster. He is a super handsome fella who has a very sweet and gentle personality. He’s as friendly as they come and had no problem blending into our home which includes two resident dogs, three resident cats and two kids. He’s a social butterfly and very much enjoys spending time with his foster humans and playing for hours on end with his Boston terrier foster sister. At the core, Milo lives for breakfast, walks, playtime, dinner and snuggles. He will never turn down a treat either. There’s no doubt he has probably been through a lot already in his short life but he’s resilient and has recovered from his hip and neuter surgeries like a champ. He works hard on his daily physiotherapy exercises and does so well at his weekly rehab sessions. He is making gains and growing stronger by the day. It’s hard to think of his dislikes because he is one of the most easy-going and happy dogs I have encountered. ♥️”
