Katsura
Katsura ended up at Hamilton Animal Services as a stray and was not claimed. She is microchipped, but the chip was not traceable. This is your reminder to keep your pet’s microchip info up to date with the chip company! If you move or change your phone number without letting the company know, they won’t be able to contact you if your pet is lost or stolen.
When Katsura arrived at the shelter, her ears were full of debris and they were very itchy. Her abdomen was distended, and her spine was prominent. Because of the overwhelming number of cats currently at Hamilton Animal Services, Katsura ended up on the euthanasia list because of her age and possible health issues. We were happy to get Katsura out of the shelter when HAS staff reached out to let us know her life was in danger. Thankfully, we had a foster home open up just at the right time, and they love fostering senior cats! Win win!
Katsura will have a vet appointment soon so we can start a plan to get her health on track. Hopefully her abdominal issue won’t be anything too serious. For now, Katsura is settling in at her foster home and is loving all the attention. She’s a very sweet and loving girl.
Welcome to Ladybird, Katsura! We’re so happy you’re here!
November 3/23 UPDATE
Katsura’s health has improved greatly over the last few weeks. Thanks to vet care, medication and lots of love from her foster family, she is much less congested and sneezy. Hopefully this purry lady will continue to improve and she’ll be able to be made available for adoption soon!
December 25/23 UPDATE
Katsura has been doing well in her foster home, though she can’t seem to shake the congestion and snotty nose. Her vet is in discussions with a specialist to see if they can figure out the issue. Otherwise, she’s been loving life with her foster family. She is a cuddle bum who is always looking for an available lap in between her moments of complete mayhem. You’d never know she’s 10 years old! She loves cat toys, dog toys and shoelaces and is constantly whipping them around the house. She also adores her tunnel and likes to go into stealth mode and surprise anyone walking by. Katsura is adamant that she doesn’t like dogs, but her foster family have caught her sharing a couch with the dogs in the house. We hope her health can be sorted soon so she can start the search for her forever home.
We love these Christmas photos her foster family took with a beautiful wreath from Glancaster Green Farm!
Merry Christmas, Katsura!
March 8, 2024 UPDATE
Katsura is finally ready for her forever home! After being diagnosed with calicivirus and mycoplasma, it took a long time to get her healthy enough, but she’s ready!
Because the possibility of future flare ups of the calicivirus and mycoplasma, Katsura should be the only cat in the home.
Here’s a note from her foster family.
“Katsura has to be the cuddliest cat that we have ever fostered. She is constantly on our laps, snuggling in our beds or can be found nestled in some blankets or clean laundry. She has a fantastic purr and will roll with you while sleeping- she doesn’t care if you roll over, she will just re-situate herself. Katsura has a fantastic purr and when she is really in a happy place, she definitely drools a little bit.
Katsura is also a fantastic alarm cat. She knows exactly when it’s feeding time and will let you know when you are 30 seconds late with the cutest little me-ow. She adores her food and treats.
Katsura contracted calicivirus and mycoplasma during her stay at animal services. These both will be a part of her life and she might have some flair ups during moments of stress and will have to go on antibiotics to make sure it doesn’t end with a sinus (and connecting ear) infection. Katsura’s ears were a mess when she first arrived at Ladybird and they tend to be a sensitive part for scratches so the we have learned to avoid scratching her ears unless Katsura lets them know its ok. Katsura has a fantastic warning growl before she swipes and now that her ears are cleaned up and not bothering her, those growls are few and far in between.
Katsura is being fostered with a pupper who adores cats. She has no problem letting the dog know that she is the boss and to back off when he is getting too excited and it fine with ignoring him completely when just living together. We definitely have come across Katsura and the dog sleeping together on the couch.
Although Katsura is estimated to be about 10 years old, she has bursts of energy and loves chasing toys around the house and attacking the feather duster. She also gets the cutest zoomies when it’s dinner time and will run around the house to get your attention that it’s time to eat.”
Please adopt Katsura!
* January 15th, 2025 UPDATE *
An update from Katsura’s foster family:
“Katsura has been hogging our bed for over a year now, so we figured that a year in review is needed. Katsura was pulled from Animal Services (we love those folks!) on October 14, 2023 after being found outside as a stray. She hates the outdoors, so we aren’t so sure how accurate that is. Katsura came in with ear mites, a horrible ear infection and some major congestion. Dr. Stubbs helped clear out her ears (which is a nasty nasty job) and gave Katsura some antibiotics to clear up her congestion. Unfortunately, the congestion is just a part of life for Katsura (and is contagious- so she has to be a single cat) and it rarely bothers her anymore. Katsura tends to get more congested if she is stressed out (which lately is only when we are away and have someone else house sit). She may require antibiotics to help with any inflammation. Some things have changed over the year. Katsura is a lap and bed hog. If there is a lap available, she is on it. If you are trying to sleep, she is either curled up next to you or on top of you. Her ears no longer bother her, so scratches and pets are mandatory along with those laps. Katsura and the resident pupper tolerate each other- they aren’t best friends, but they agree to share the bed, couch, and dinner areas. Katsura adores food. A lot. She now gets fed in a ball to encourage movement. She also has minor arthritis, so the movement and the weight loss from being fed in a ball helps manage that. Katsura adores tomatoes. We have no idea why, but if there are any tomatoes left to ripen in a windowsill, basement or in a grocery bag, she will find them and run all over the house to hide. She rarely goes after other food, but she will claw through the bottom of a box to get to tomatoes. We can’t say enough about Katsura! She is an amazing cat who will be a great addition to any house. She will keep you in giggles and smother you in cuddles.”
