Candy Apple
* Candy Apple found her forever home with amazing people and another bunny to be friends with! Woo hoo!*
At the end of August, someone dumped an entire family of domestic rabbits onto a trail in Hamilton. Hamilton Animal Services was called and the rabbits brought into the shelter.
These rabbits are among the lucky ones who survived being abandoned, but not all animals are so lucky. Domestic animals don’t have the survival skills that wild animals do. They often starve to death, or are killed by predators. There is always an alternative to dumping, and there are many resources available. Dumping a pet is never the answer. Please stop doing this.
Fast forward to late October – the shelter was beyond capacity, and some of this bunny family ended up on the euthanasia list. We put a call out for fosters, so many wonderful people answered that call that we were able to get Dalton and Candy Apple out of the shelter to safety, and we have more fosters on hand for some of the new rabbits that will inevitably be brought in soon after. Amazing!
Candy Apple was spayed on her rescue day, and she’s now healed up and ready to find her forever home!
Here’s a report from Candy Apple’s foster home:
“Minnie Candy Apple is a sweet, inquisitive and thumpy little bunny! She is quite petite and snuggles like a little baby on your chest. When she is not being snuggled, she is a tad skittish but will happily be handled! She is often seen wandering around the couch to say hi to any people or animals who are lounging, and she recently became comfortable enough to sit on the couch to chill with the humans. Candy likes cats and isn’t scared, however she is learning about the personal space bubble! She loves nesting and messing up piles of blankets. She is a big thumper! She loves eating mixed greens and celery! Candy is fully litter trained both in and out of her pen and is a very tidy little girl!”
* Candy Apple has been vaccinated against Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHDV).
