Arthur
* Arthur found his forever home with awesome people! Woo hoo! *
We rescued Arthur from Hamilton Animal Services where he ended up as a stray. No owner came forward to claim him, despite him being at the shelter for more than a month. While at the shelter, Arthur had blood testing done that revealed he was FIV positive. He’s not showing any symptoms of the virus though, which is great. He does, unfortunately, have a large mass on his neck that the shelter was not able to have checked out, due to financial constraints and the huge number of cats currently at the shelter. Because Arthur had two strikes against him, he ended up on the euthanasia list. We couldn’t let this sweet senior guy die just because of these issues, so we sprung Arthur from the shelter when one of our wonderful foster homes became available.
Arthur is now settling in at his foster home and he’ll have a vet visit soon to look into the mass and his overall health. Once his medical issues are sorted, Arthur will be able to start the search for his forever home. He’s a snuggly boy so far, and is very happy to be out of a cage and getting all the scritches from his foster mom.
Welcome to Ladybird, Arthur! We’re so happy you’re here!
November 28, 2023 UPDATE
Arthur did great for his mass removal and dental surgery yesterday. The mass that was removed from his neck will be sent out for testing, and our fingers are crossed that it will come back clear.
Arthur is relaxing now in his foster home and his foster mom is giving him extra love and snuggles to help him heal.
Hopefully all will be well with his recovery and he’ll be able to start the search for his forever home soon.
Way to go, Arthur!
December 25/23 UPDATE
Arthur has been doing very well since his surgery. The mass was a thyroid tumour and his vet is hopeful removing it has solved the issue. He is doing much better and his blood levels are now where they should be, so he was taken off the thyroid medication. He has another check up mid January to see if he is still on course and then he will be good to be adopted!
Arthur is absolute delight. In the mornings he yells until he gets cuddles and only then will he eat his breakfast – the only cat in existence to prefer cuddles over food. His favourite place is snugged up right beside his person, even if there really isn’t space for him. He is starting to become more active, but still prefers snuggles and skritches to playing – fair enough! He does also grumble quite a bit, especially when you move when he is sleeping beside you, which is adorable.
We love these Christmas photos Arthur’s foster family took with a beautiful wreath from Glancaster Green Farm!
Happy Christmas, Arthur!
January 10/24 UPDATE
Arthur is ready to find his forever home!
Here’s a note from his foster home:
“This sweet old man was found as a stray in October, but no one claimed him. He was brought to Hamilton Animal Services, and because he is such a snugglebum, they got him ready to be adopted out. During routine medical exams, a lump was found in his neck and it was discovered that he had hyperthyroidism. This, along with being FIV positive, meant he was off the shelter’s adoption list. Because Hamilton Animal Services is overrun with so many cats right now, this, heartbreakingly, meant Arthur was put on the euthanasia list. Thankfully Ladybird were able to scoop up Arthur with literally with days to spare.
This guy is absolute delight. In the mornings he yells until he gets cuddles and only then will he eat his breakfast. His favourite place is snugged up right beside his person, even if there really isn’t space for him. He will grumble if you disturb his nap or dare to move while he is relaxing beside you.
In November, he had his thyroid removed, and we are happy to say he is doing much better. A post surgery test showed that his bloodwork was still at the right level, so he was taken off his thyroid medication. Since then, he has become much more active. He is a fan of anything he can chase or catch. His most recent checkup showed that his blood levels are still good, so he could finally stop getting thyroid food as well (which is good cause he does NOT like it).
Arthur has not met any dogs or cats since coming into Ladybird’s care. He is FIV positive, so though not necessary, a household as the only cat would be best. He is a shy guy – he will hide if any visitors arrive.
Arthur’s story highlights why it is important to adopt, not shop. Adopt from a shelter so they have space for more animals and don’t have to euthanize due to overcrowding. Adopt from a rescue, so they, in turn, can rescue more animals.
Every person who has adopted from Ladybird has allowed another animal to be rescued and given another chance. If you can’t adopt, think about fostering. If you can’t foster, donate to Ladybird and other rescues. This allows more animals like Arthur to be saved! ”
