* Red has found a wonderful forever home where he’ll have another bunny to be friends with! Yippee! *

Red came into Hamilton Animal Services as a “stray” and no owner came forward to claim him. We can almost a guarantee that Red is not a stray, and that he was dumped by his owners and left to fend for himself outdoors. Rabbit abandonment is rampant. We’ve talked about this issue before, but the rabbits just keep coming in droves. Domestic animals don’t have the survival skills that wild animals do. They often starve to death, or are killed by predators. There is always an alternative to dumping, and there are many resources available. Dumping a pet is never the answer. It’s disheartening that these innocent animals continue to be tossed away like garbage day after day. But we digress….

On his rescue day, Red had a health check and he was neutered. He did great for his surgery, and healed up well in his foster home. Flemish Giants are one of the largest rabbit breeds, and one of the friendliest. Red is no exception. As soon as you pet his head, he lays down and flattens out to lap up all the pets. Such a sweet bun. His adopter must be able to provide him an extra large living area, or allow him to free-roam in a rabbit proofed home.

* Red has been vaccinated against Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHDV).

Rabbits need lots of space…

Our fostered rabbits are housed in x-pens or similar enclosures so they have lots of room to move around when they aren’t out for floor time. Some of our rabbits are free range in their foster home.
Commercially made pet store rabbit cages are far too small to allow rabbits to stretch out and move around with ease. Here are some examples of great enclosures, and rooms set up for free roaming bunnies.
