Edwina
* Isabelle and Edwina found their forever home with lovely people! Woo hoo! *
In November 2023, Isabelle and Edwina were brought to Hamilton Animal Services as strays. These poor little kittens were terrified. They were very thin and were absolutely infested with fleas. Shelter staff treated them for the fleas and made them comfortable in their cage while they waited to be claimed. No owner came forward to claim them (how shocking), so the shelter had them spayed and put them up for adoption. Because of their shy nature, Isabelle and Edwina were passed over by any potential adopters. A shelter environment was just too stressful for them, and because they were beyond full, HAS staff asked us for help getting them out.
Isabelle and Edwina had a vet visit on their rescue day and they’re now settling in at their foster home. Their foster mom will let us know how they do over the next couple of weeks, and if all goes well, they’ll be made available for adoption.
Welcome to Ladybird, Isabelle and Edwina! We’re so happy you’re here!
* February 27/24 UPDATE *
Edwina and Isabelle have been doing very well in their foster home. It has taken almost all these weeks since Edwina and Isabelle’s rescue for them to not run away when their foster mom comes into their room. Foster mom has made great progress getting these super shy ladies to interact with her. These photos tell a wonderful story of patience, persistence, and a whole lot of love.
Way to go Edwina and Isabelle! And thank you foster mom!
March 10/24 UPDATE
Edwina and Isabelle are ready to be adopted! Their foster mom did a fantastic job giving them all the time they needed to come out of their shells, and now they need a forever home!
Here’s a note from their foster mom:
“Edwina and Isabelle have made such great progress! Poor things were so scared in the shelter, they would just freeze and hunker down in a corner. For the first two weeks after I brought them home, they would hide whenever I came in the room – but they were also very purry when I reached in and got my hands on them for skritches. It took a few weeks, lots of Churu treats, but eventually they became more and more comfortable coming out of their hiding spots (Ed first, she’s definitely the braver one, but she sets a good example for Izzy). They’re still a bit skittish with loud noises and sudden movements, but they’re out and about the whole time now, no dashing to their hiding spot. Ed curls up right beside me, I can see her becoming a lap cat. Izzy is more lap-adjacent, but close enough for lotsa pets. They’ll definitely climb all over each other to get the most skritches, and they love to play-fight and groom-fight with each other too. They have lots of kitten energy to burn off, they love chasing each other around the room; their next favourite activity is shredding cardboard boxes. I think they will need an adopter with plenty of patience (I’d be expecting them to revert back to hiding in their new home until they get comfortable), no children and a fairly quiet environment, but once they get used to you, you’re going to have the sweetest, softest lil’ cuties beside you!”
