Louie
* Louie has found his forever home with awesome people! Woohoo! *
Louie was brought to Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. He spent an extended time at the shelter, but no owner came forward to claim him. Poor Louie’s teeth are really bad. His mouth must be hurting him quite a lot. He came into the shelter with a scrape on his nose, but it’s not known what caused it.
Louie was extremely depressed at the shelter. He didn’t want to leave the bed in his kennel, and was reluctant to interact with the staff. When he did, all he wanted was to be in their laps. He is very sweet, but very sad.
We were happy to get Louie out of the shelter as soon as we were able. He had a vet visit on his rescue day, and thankfully he is healthy enough for the dental surgery he desperately needs. Louie will also be neutered while he’s under for the surgery, that is scheduled for next week.
Louie is now settling in at his foster home, and he’s doing well so far. His foster family are prepared to allow him the time he needs to come out of his shell. We’re going to do everything we can to heal his broken heart.
Welcome to Ladybird, Louie! We’re so happy you’re here!
March 15/24 UPDATE
Louie update!
Everything went great with Louie’s surgery. He was neutered and all his teeth were removed except for the K9 teeth and lower incisors.
No more smelly mouth!
Unfortunately, he won’t stop fussing with his neuter sutures, so he has to wear the soft cone until his surgical onesie arrives very soon. He’s doing well otherwise!
When he’s healed from his surgery, Louie will be made available for adoption.
Way to go, Louie!
March 29/24 UPDATE
Louie is ready!
He’s all healed up from his surgery and ready to find his forever home!
Here’s a note from Louie:
“Hi, my name is Louie and I am such a sweet little boy! Well that is what my foster mom tells me all the time. I was very sad and depressed at the shelter until the nice lady came and got me and I was able to come to my foster home. It took me a few days to venture out of my safe place (open kennel) but my foster sister Ella made me feel secure and showed me the ropes. I really like my foster sister and my foster brother, Duke, but they are kinda old and don’t like roughhousing so I am learning to be more gentle. I get the zoomies when it’s nice outside and it makes my foster parents giggle every time, so I do it even more. They tell me I act so much younger than my age! Speaking of my foster mom, I love her so much that I am very sad when she has to go out. I wait on the couch upstairs until she returns and then I greet her by jumping up and down while singing the song of my people! Foster mom says it’s a good thing we live in a house because my voice is loud. We are working on calm greetings but it’s so hard for me because I am excited that the pack is back together! I never have an accident in the house nor am I destructive so my anxiety over foster mom leaving only shows when she gets home. As well as working on calm greetings, we are also working on leash manners, (going for walks is fun) sit and stay. Apparently I am doing better, but according to my foster dad, I will be a work in progress for a while…whatever that means! I have spent lots of time with a young boy who calls my foster mom, Nana. He really scared me at first so I would hide in my safe space. However, the boy was very patient and kind so I decided he was ok to play and snuggle with after all. Everyone thinks I will do well with other children who will let me come to them when I am comfortable and feel safe. There aren’t any cats at my house so my foster mom doesn’t know how I would be but I am content to watch the squirrels on the fence without chasing them like the dog next door. I am hoping that I can find a furever family that will be as patient with me as my foster parents have been and let me come out of my shell when I am ready. I promise it won’t take very long!
PS….I will gladly sleep on your bed if you let me but I am happy to have my own bed beside yours if you don’t want me up there.
PSS….I am a very good eater but I need soft food because I don’t have many teeth”
