Hughie
* Hughie has been adopted by his foster family! Yay! *
Hughie ended up at Hamilton Animal Services as a stray. During his time at the shelter, staff noticed that Hughie was urinating while he slept. A strange thing for sure! Testing showed no issues with his urine, and it remained a mystery as to why this was happening. Despite an extended stay at the shelter, no owner came forward to claim Hughie. Even though Hughie is an extra sweet and gentle dog, it seems likely that he was dumped by his owners because of his sleep peeing.
We were thrilled when a foster home stepped up so we could get Hughie out of the shelter. At the vet on his rescue day, blood tests and another urine test were done, but everything came back as normal. When Hughie goes back to the vet in a couple of weeks for his neuter, he will have further testing done to see if we can pinpoint what’s going on.
For now, sweet Hughie is settling in at his foster home and he is very happy to be out of the shelter. His foster family are taking great care of him and spoiling him lots. Hughie is wearing belly-bands to help keep mess to a minimum, and they’re working great so far.
Hopefully we will eventually be able to sort out Hughie’s pee problem so he can find his forever home when he’s ready.
Welcome to Ladybird, Hughie! We’re so happy you’re here!
* May 14/24 UPDATE *
Hughie had a much needed grooming today. He was full of mats and tangles, so a shave down was in order. We think he looks fantastic with his new doo!
His foster family report that Hughie is almost 100% housetrained now. Though he is still urinating while he sleeps, he’s otherwise doing great with not going in the house. This week, Hughie will be neutered and he’ll have an xray while he’s under to see if we can pinpoint the sleep-pee issue.
We hope Hughie’s surgery goes well, and that we can get some answers then.
He’s having a great time with his foster family, and is overall a super sweet dog. He’s going to make a wonderful companion to the right person when he’s ready to find his forever home.
We love you, Hughie!

Everything went great for Hughie’s neuter surgery. Xrays showed no medical reason that would be causing him to urinate in his sleep, but his foster family report that he’s gone more than a week now without an overnight pee! Not sure if the neuter took care of the issue, or if he’s feeling more comfortable with his surroundings, but we are thrilled to hear this news!
Hughie will have a little more healing time in his foster home and he’ll be made available for adoption soon.
Great job, Hughie! We’re so proud of you!

Hughie has been adopted by his foster family! He healed perfectly from his surgery and is doing amazingly with not urinating in his sleep anymore. We’re so glad this sweet boy has found his forever home and will be properly cared for and loved for the rest of his days.
