Teeny
Teeny was in rough shape when she ended up at a Quebec shelter as a stray. She was very thin, her fur was sparse, and her skin was crusty. It seems she wasn’t getting the best care wherever she came from before she was abandoned. Because the shelter was over capacity, Teeny was given a euthanasia deadline. Thankfully, we were able to save Teeny’s life just days before the deadline when a foster home stepped up to take her in.
Teeny came to us in Ontario by way of One Last Chance, and Freedom Drivers volunteers. We’re very thankful for all the wonderful people who donate their time to transport rescued animals all across the country.
Teeny is the cutest little thing! We were shocked at how small she is when she arrived. Teeny wasted no time digging into the hay and lettuce her foster family had waiting for her, and she had lots to say as she explored her new enclosure. She’s the sweetest tiny piggy!
Teeny has a vet visit coming up, and we hope to sort out what’s causing the issue with her fur, so she can start the search for her forever home when she’s feeling better.
Welcome to Ladybird, Teeny! We’re so happy you’re here!
June 20/24 UPDATE
Please send your love and well wishes to Teeny today. She goes in for surgery this morning to be spayed and to remove ovarian cysts. Hair loss can be a tell tale sign of ovarian cysts, so we were not surprised by this diagnosis when Teeny had her initial check up at the vet.
Teeny is such a sweet little girl and we’re all very much in love with her. Our fingers are crossed that everything goes well with the surgery.
You got this, Teeny!
We’re devastated. Our sweet Teeny didn’t make it.
The entire surgery was routine – performed by a vet with extensive experience with this exact surgery.
Despite the ovarian cysts being quite large, there were no complications removing them or the uterus. But during recovery after the surgery was complete, Teeny crashed. The vet and staff sprung into emergency mode and managed to bring Teeny back for a short time, but her little body just couldn’t recover from the severe drop in her vitals, and she passed away.
We’re heartbroken.
It’s not possible to pinpoint exactly why this happened, but if Teeny’s excessive hair loss and the size of the cysts were any indication, she had been suffering with this condition for a number of years. Being a small, short-snouted breed may have contributed to other health issues we weren’t aware of.
Either way, we are sad that our attempt to give her a happy, pain-free life, didn’t come to fruition. But we are thankful she had 10 days in her foster home where she was loved and spoiled for every one of those days.
Our hearts go out Teeny’s foster family, and to the vet and staff who did their best to help her.
💔
Sleep well, Teeny. We’ll never forget your sweet face.
