* Hubbard and Butternut have been adopted by their foster family! Woo hoo! *

Hubbard and Butternut were surrendered to a Quebec shelter when their owner was moving. We were happy to take these two in when a foster home stepped up. Hubbard and Butternut came to us in Ontario by way of One Last Chance, and Freedom Drivers volunteers. We’re very thankful for all the wonderful people who donate their time to transport rescued animals all across the country.

Hubbard is one of the fattest rats we’ve ever met. This poor guy is morbidly obese. Butternut is also a big boy, but he’s nowhere the size of Hubbard. Thankfully, Hubbard is mobile and does like to move around and explore his surroundings. His foster family will work on getting some weight off of him with a healthy diet and lots of exercise.

Butternut came to us with an injured paw. We’re not sure if this injury happened before the rats were surrendered or if it happened at the shelter, but the foot is red and swollen. At their vet visit, Butternut was put on medication, and we hope it will help the foot heal up without issue.

These boys are very sweet, and they’ll be made available for adoption when they’re both ready.

Ladybird recommends Critter Nation cages. They are hands down the most spacious, and best quality enclosure for small animals on the market. They come in single and double sizes, and can be modified and customized to create enrichment and provide comfort. Their design and solid manufacturing almost entirely eliminates the possibility of accidental escape. Critter Nation cages are available (or can be ordered) at most local pet supply stores.

Can’t adopt but want to help?
Monetary donations are always needed, but if you’d like to donate something specifically for the rats in our care, donations of rat food, baby blankets, rat hammocks and fleece liners for Critter Nation cages are very much appreciated!
