* Effie has found her forever home with a lovey person! Yay! *

Effie was surrendered to a Quebec shelter when her owner was moving. Effie’s owner told shelter staff that Effie’s partially closed eye was caused by an infection when she was younger. The shelter was packed to the brim with animals, so they reached out for help. We were more than willing to take this sweet hammy in.
Effie came to us in Ontario by way of One Last Chance, and Freedom Drivers volunteers. We’re very thankful for all the wonderful people who donate their time to transport rescued animals all across the country.
Effie had a vet visit shortly after her arrival, and she was put on medication to see if it will help with her eye. She’s otherwise in good health. Effie is a very friendly and active little girl, and she takes her medication like a champ. She’s a real sweetheart!
Once Effie’s medication is done, we’ll reassess her health and hopefully she can be made available for adoption then.

September 15/24 UPDATE
Though the medication didn’t help open Effie’s eye entirely, it is a little more open, and that’s likely as good as it’s going to get. The eye issue certainly doesn’t slow this sweet hammy down at all. She’s active, affectionate, and otherwise completely heathy. And she’s ready for her forever home!
Effie loves to run around and explore the 75 gallon tank she’s currently being housed in. She digs tunnels in the bedding and has several hiding spots for her food stash. She absolutely loves running in her wheel, and will jump out, scoot around the platform the wheel is on, only to jump back on the wheel for another spin. It’s very cute to watch.
Effie is a very friendly hamster, and will come right to you if you put your hand into the tank. She is easy to handle, but children should be supervised at all times when she is out of her enclosure with them.

All in all, Effie is a wonderful little ham, and she deserves a forever home where she will have a large enclosure, wheel, some snacks, and people to love her forever.
