Nancy
Nancy and Drew were abandoned in their enclosure without food or water when their owners up and moved. When they were discovered, Cambridge Humane Society stepped in to help, only to find the terrified pair, starving and living on a heaving pile of their own feces. The scene was so horrendous that the bottom of their enclosure was literally rotted out when rescue workers tried to pick it up.
To make matters worse, it was suspected that the female, Nancy, was pregnant. Without resources to provide proper vet care for the guinea pigs, Cambridge Humane reached out to Ladybird for help. We were happy to get this sweet pair out of shelter when a foster home offered to accommodate them.
On their rescue day, Nancy and Drew saw our vet for general wellness check, parasite treatment, and to confirm Nancy’s pregnancy. She is indeed pregnant with likely 2-3 babies to be born within the coming weeks. For now, Nancy and Drew are being housed in separate enclosures, side by side. We hope that we’ll be able to reunite the pair once Drew has been neutered and Nancy has weened her babies. Drew needs to gain some weight back before he can have surgery, but he’ll be neutered as soon as he’s ready. Until then, these gorgeous piggies will be spoiled with all the love, fresh veg, snuggly sleep spots, and space to roam in the safety of their foster home.
Welcome to Ladybird, Nancy and Drew. We’re so happy you’re here.
UPDATE: September 19th, 2024
Nancy had her babies! There are three and they all look exactly like their dad. Because Nancy and Tonto have bonded, they will be available for adoption as a pair.
Welcome the world, Firesnout, Cashew and Tonto!
UPDATE: December 13th, 2024
Since they were rescued, Nancy and Drew had been separated so Nancy could birth and ween her babies (Tonto, Cashew and Firesnout). We also had Drew neutered in the hopes that we could reunite Nancy and Drew at some point.
The babies boys – Firesnout and Cashew – have been adopted by a loving family. Nancy and her daughter Tonto have been besties and loving life together, so we were uncertain how introducing Drew with the pair would go. Well, it all happened this week and the trio are doing amazingly well. Because the three get along great, we’d love to adopt this little family as a bonded herd.
If you have it in your heart and home to adopt three very sweet guinea pigs, Nancy, Drew and Tonto may be the perfect piggies for you!
UPDATE: February 3rd, 2025
We’ve recently managed to find a solo neutered friend for Tonto to bond with, so Tonto + Twinkle and Nancy + Drew are now available for adoption as sweet bonded pairs.

Guinea pigs need much more room than the typical pet store guinea pig cages offer. Here are some examples of appropriate cages pigs can live happily in, so that they have lots of room to move around and explore:
