Lucky
After owning him for seven of his ten years, Lucky’s owners surrendered him to Hamilton Animal Services because he was chewing things and making too much noise at night.
Because of his advanced age, and because there are so many rabbits already in the shelter and more coming in every day, Lucky was put on the euthanasia list. We are beyond grateful to the kind staff member at the shelter who alerted us to Lucky being on the list so we could get him out of the shelter before he was put down. Big thank you to Abby (SkinnyPigs1 on Youtube) for stepping up to foster this sweet old guy.
Lucky saw the vet on his rescue day, and he was diagnosed with arthritis. He needs a minor dental trim, but his teeth are not at the point they’re causing him serious pain. Lucky is showing signs of being a senior bun, he’s thin and a bit wobbly, so we’re going to give him a month or so in his foster home before deciding whether or not he can handle surgery. Thankfully he’s eating well and is enjoying the pets and attention he’s getting. Abby has modified his living quarters to help with his arthritis, and he was started on a pain management medication for extra relief.
We’re glad we could save Lucky’s life, and we’re thankful for everyone who helped him along the way!
Welcome to Ladybird, Lucky! We’re so happy you’re here!
* Lucky has been vaccinated against Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHDV).
Rabbits need lots of space…
Our fostered rabbits are housed in x-pens or similar enclosures so they have lots of room to move around when they aren’t out for floor time. Some of our rabbits are free range in their foster home.
Commercially made pet store rabbit cages are far too small to allow rabbits to stretch out and move around with ease. Here are some examples of great enclosures, and rooms set up for free roaming bunnies.
