Bruce was surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services by his owners because of allergies in the family. Poor Bruce was in pretty rough shape when he arrived. Shelter staff had to trim Bruce’s very long nails, clean Bruce’s ears of debris, and give him a bath to remove all the crusted poop that was stuck on his feet and legs. Seems he wasn’t kept in the cleanest cage in his previous home, and wasn’t being properly cared for. ☹️
The shelter is currently packed full of small animals, and we were happy to get Bruce out when a foster home opened up. We had Bruce neutered on his rescue day, and he healed up perfectly. He’s a nice pig, but will panic when he is frightened by quick movements and loud noises. For this reason, a home without small children would be best for him. Bruce likes Oxbow Rewards treats and Oxbow Vitamin C cookies. He is a big fan of the twice daily veggie snacks he is offered. Leafy greens and red/green peppers being his favourites. Because guinea pigs are herd animas, we are asking that Bruce’s forever home have other pigs there for him to be friends with.
