Marzipan and Midge were surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services by their owner when they could no longer care for them.
We were happy to get these cute pigs out of the noisy shelter and into a quiet foster home. They had a vet visit on their rescue day and they are healthy, other than Midge having a sore on her foot. She was put on medication for the sore, and it healed up wonderfully with time.
These piggies are very, very scared, and their foster family have been working hard to help them get over their fears. They’ve gotten a bit better, but they will still need a quiet home with very patient adopters who will continue to help them be less fearful.
Here’s a note from Marzipan and Midge’s foster family:
“Marzipan and Midge are super cute piggies, but they’re very scared. They do not enjoy being picked up or handled, and for this reason, they would not be a good match for a home with children. They love to play in their hay pile. They need to have lots of hiding spots in their enclosure, and when they’re out exploring during floor time.
These are the first guinea pigs we’ve met who don’t like the Oxbow Rewards snacks. We’ve tried the vitamin C ones, and all the other flavours, but they’re just not interested. What they do like though is their veggies. They like kale, romaine lettuce, green leaf lettuce, parsley, dandelion, cucumber, and carrot, just to name a few.
Marzipan and Midge are shy but sweet pigs who will wheek their way into your heart if you give them a chance.”
