Topper
Topper found his forever home with a wonderful family and other dogs to be friends with! Woo hoo!
Someone put Topper and his brother into a crate and abandoned them in a park in Burlington. Thankfully someone found the crate and brought the puppies to Burlington Animal Services. After their stray time was up, Topper’s brother was adopted. Because it was thought Topper had a heart murmur, and because of lack of cage space, shelter staff reached out to us for help.
We were happy to get Topper out of the shelter and he went straight to the vet for a health check. Turns out, Topper doesn’t have a heart murmur after all, and aside from the typical skin issues that Chinese Crested dogs suffer from, he’s in good health. We’ve got him scheduled to be neutered at the end of the month.
Topper is a very friendly guy. He’s only about five months old, so he has lots of puppy energy. He is getting along with the other animals in his foster home, and he loves to hang out and snuggle with humans.
When Topper is healed from his neuter and gets the go-ahead from his vet, he’ll be made available for adoption.
Welcome to Ladybird, Topper! We’re so happy you’re here!
January 30/25 UPDATE
Please send your love and well wishes to Topper for his neuter surgery today.
We’ll give him time to heal from surgery before he is made available for adoption.
Topper has been doing great in his foster home since his rescue, and we know he’ll make a wonderful companion for the right home when he’s ready.
You got this, Topper!
The application for Topper is now closed. We’ve had so much interest in this adorable pup. Thank to all who have applied. We’re currently processing applications and will be in touch shortly.
February 6/25 UPDATE
Topper is healed from his neuter surgery and he’s ready for his forever home!
Here’s a note from Topper’s foster family:
“Topper is super adorable and a little cuddle bug who, although hairless, throws a lot of heat! lol. He gets along with dogs (only tested with small ones) and cats. Cats are his favourite, but any cats in his forever home will have to be agreeable to chasing and being chased. Topper has not been tested with children.
For his breed, he will have to have a wardrobe in the colder months. He doesn’t fight being dressed and will sit calmly while you get him in whatever get-up is appropriate for the weather. He has learned to sit on command, however formal obedience training should start as soon as possible. When he gets excited with play or when trying to get your attention he will bark and his bark is loud and hard to shut off. He would not be suited for apartment/condo/townhouse dwellers. He is crate trained now and will settle quickly for the night. He is about 95% housebroken with only a couple accidents. Hes still a pup so holding through the night might be a challenge, but that will improve as he gets older. His one major con is that he is a poop eater. He will eat his own and the poop of the other pets in the home. Hopefully he will either grow out of this bad habit or it can be trained out of him.
Overall, he will make a lovely companion for someone. I think he will be easily trainable if given the dedication. Hes attentive and treat motivated. Topper’s new owner should also be made aware that looking after his skin will be a daily routine and they will have to be well schooled on what his needs will be his whole life.”
