Buttons
The Ladybird Animal Sanctuary rescued Buttons & Biscotti from a high-kill shelter in Laval, Quebec where they were signed over by their owners because they didn’t want them anymore.
Thanks to the lovely people at T.E.A.M Cat and Dog Rescue, Buttons & Biscotti were delivered to us through a series of volunteer drivers. They came all the way from Quebec to Toronto where we were happy to pick them up!
Buttons and Biscotti are likely sister and brother, but we don’t know for sure. Before they were fixed, they were housed next to each other in their pens where they could see each other and touch noses, but they couldn’t be together (we all know what happens when un-fixed bunnies get together!)
Once they were both fixed and healed from their surgeries, we opened up the pen so they could finally reunite, and they were soooooo happy! Now they are inseparable. They lay together, play together, eat together (both their heads bobbing alternatively into the food bowl…so funny to watch!) and they groom each other often. Because of their strong bond, Buttons and Biscotti must be adopted as a pair.
Biscotti is the more laid back of the two rabbits. Buttons is friendly, but doesn’t like the dust pan coming into her pen when it’s time to sweep up. She grunts and hops around it and tries to make it go away! When cleaning is done though, she is relaxed and content to be patted. Buttons and Biscotti are litter trained and their foster home uses Yesterdays News litter in their box.
We ask that our rabbits not be housed in the types of rabbit cages they sell in pet stores. Our fostered rabbits are housed in x-pens or similar large enclosures so they have lots of room to move around when they aren’t out for floor time. Commercially made pet store rabbit cages are far too small to allow rabbits to stretch out and move around with ease.
Here are some great websites outlining alternative rabbit housing using x pens and similar enclosures.
