Papion
The Ladybird Animal Sanctuary rescued Papion from Hamilton Animal Control. Her owner passed away and the family signed her over to the HAC because they didn’t want to look after her.
Papion is a lovely little dog, and despite her age, she has a lot of life left in her!
Here’s a note from Papion’s foster home:
“Meet Papion – or as we sometimes call her Peppy Pappy 🙂 Pappy found her way to us after her owner passed away and none of the remaining family could care for her. This bundle of fun has had no trouble making herself at home – within 1 hour of arriving, she had politely introduced herself to our dog Jack, and happily adopted one of his beds and his bone! Did I mention that our dog is a Lab/Dane cross, or about the size of a T.Rex in her eyes? Of course Jack was happy to share and they have been good buddies since first meeting.
Pappy loves to roll around and squirm in ecstasy when she gets into “her” bed (check out the video), and believe me, it only took about 2 seconds for her to squirm her way into our hearts. She might sound a bit older on paper, but she has the energy and personality (and ability!) of a young dog – she loves running outside on her extend-a-leash, she bounds up and down the stairs, jumps in and out of the car….she is totally fun and loveable, an easy addition to almost any family! She loves to be part of the action and would be happy to join you just about anywhere – curled up at your feet at work, running by your side in the park or riding around in the car running errands 🙂
Papion completely ignores our 2 cats, and even our shy-guy kitty is out and about in the house with her here – of all our foster dogs, we have had the fastest and easiest harmony in the house with Papion. She’s also friendly with other dogs and people in the park! She is happy to snuggle up with either me or my husband, but she does stick a bit closer to me through the day (we’re not sure if this is a slight preference for females, or simply because I carried her out of the pound and she sat on my lap during the car ride home – we can tell that she’s grateful for her rescue!). We are happy to report, Pappy is fully house-trained and only barks briefly if someone comes to the door or if she is startled (for example, she barked a few times at the Canada Day fireworks…nothing seems to get this girl down!).
Papion does have a heart murmur that she receives a pill for with her morning and evening meals. She has had the murmur a long time, and it is not causing her any problems, but she does need a regular veterinarian to make sure everything stays that way (checkups every 6-12 months, or as needed, would be reasonable).
This bundle of fun will promise to bring laughter and love to your life – please fill out an adoption form if you think you’re the forever family for her!”
Papion found her forever home with lovely people and she’s living it up now in New York City!
There is a minimum adoption donation of $250 to adopt a dog through Ladybird Animal Sanctuary. The fee includes basic vaccines, deworming, flea treatment, spay/neuter and a microchip.
