Steve French
Ladybird rescued Jackson and Steve French from Hamilton Animal Control. They didn’t know each other at HAC, and had come in on different days as strays from different parts of the city. They were both super duper happy kittens in their separate cages…constant rubbing on the bars and flopping with happy feet going. We took a chance and put them together in one cage. They acted like long lost brothers! Purring, grooming and bonking each other…playing and snuggling together. It was a perfect match! They’re total BFFs! We would like them to be adopted as a pair because of this reason.
Here’s a note from their foster mom:
“There have always been dynamic duos throughout history:
Frick and Frack; Batman and Robin; Phineas and Ferb; Thing 1 and Thing 2; Laurel and Hardy;
Siskel and Ebert; Tom and Jerry; Oscar and Felix; Pinky and the Brain and now there’s
Steve French (white kitty) and Jackson (black kitty) or Jon Snow and Scarf as we have been calling them.
So if you’re a yin and yang kind of person, couple, or family than you are gonna adore these little guys. I hadn’t realized at first that they were not litter mates and that Ladybird spotted them, each alone in their cages at animal control and plunked them together. These 2 took to each other immediately and have bonded like a Resse Peanut Butter cup.
Each possess their own unique sense of self but acting together in times of cuteness and bad-boy-ness as one unit. As I type this they are scampering around the apartment in a flurry of action, flipping, pouncing, leaping and attacking each other, it looks like one black and one white alligator rolling around from place to place.
Cuteness tends to come in the wee hours of the morning, Steve trying to subdue my toes while Jacskon is causing a distraction by doing his best ‘living scarf’ impression, which he is very good at. He will happily get right up in your face and drape himself over your neck and onto your face. This is lovely and all but a little hard to breathe but he is persistent in his attempt to show you he loves you. Face rubs are his speciality while he purrs and purrs and purrs happily. Jackson is the touchy feely kitten and doesn’t mind being held and picked up. If he has litter on the end of his nose he is ok with you rubbing it off or when he first came he had to have ear drops and he would sit calmly while I squirted them in and massaged his ears. Unlike Steve who does not like to be manhandled and so his ear drops were a wee bit trickier. If I want to clean his face I have to lift him in the air to do so otherwise he’s a huge squirmer and
ultimately wins his freedom.
This doesn’t mean that he doesn’t enjoy a full body rub or cuddle, on the contrary. As soon as you lay hands on him and give him any kind of scratch or chin rub, let the purr fest begin. And he is quite happy to jump up with you on the couch or in bed for a cuddle. Right now, Steve is on his back attacking one of my resident cats that quite happily plays with the kittens and acts as a surrogate big brother. Both kittens are great with other cats and other people who come to visit. Both are super eaters, meaning they are little oinky pigs and especially Jackson who somehow is at the fridge every time you are, with desperate pleas for a snack. He has this pathetic little mew that is hard to refuse. Watch out though, that you don’t turn around to talk to Jackson and when you turn back around Steve has hopped in the fridge for a peak…..that is acting as a single unit as I mentioned before. They are very good boys but very baaaaaaddddddd boys
as well. Jackson is just lying on the kitchen floor giving me that look….the, ‘I could go for a snack if you felt so inclined to whip up a little something for me’ look…..too cute.
They use their scratching post (or each other :o) and are very easy going lads, no trouble at all. Just feed, water, and add love and you’re off to the races with these two. They are still young and can be scratchy/bitey at times, so probably best suited for people or a family that doesn’t have very young children. Once you tell them no, fingers are for love not food, they are good and get the message.
It’s hard to resist Steve with his pink nose, pink ears, and awesome eyes the colour of white grapes/ice wine. And on the opposite end of the spectrum is Jackson with his yellow green eyes and salt and pepper belly and tail fur. Be careful though, Jackson is hard to spot in the dark and he loves to all the sudden be around your feet.
They are quite the pair and no doubt will bring many smiles, chuckles, and happiness to your family for a long time to come.”
Steve French and Jackson found their forever home together. Yay!
