Bitsy
Bitsy was rescued from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. We took her straight from HAC to the vet where she was spayed and had some much needed dental surgery. It was discovered that Bitsy has a heart murmur and she was doing a lot of coughing and gagging in her foster home. After many weeks of different treatment and medications, Bitsy was diagnosed with a collapsed trachea. The coughing is down to a minimum now, but she will always have to be on medication to keep the coughing at bay.
It took her a while to heal from her dental surgery and start to feel better with the medications for her cough, but once she did, she came out of her shell and is a bouncy, sweet and happy dog who does dances whenever her foster people come home. Bitsy enjoys running through the snow in the backyard, and she likes walks, as long as it’s not too cold out.
Bitsy is eating Wellness brand senior canned and dry food and she likes different types of small, soft treats.
Bitsy needs a home with no cats and no small children. She is tolerant of other dogs, but we imagine Bitsy would prefer to be the only animal in the home.
Bitsy found her forever home with an awesome person, and her big brother in her forever home is Will the doberman!
May 2015 – An update from Bitsy’s forever home:
“Hope all is well with you! Just wanted to send a personal note of appreciation for all that you are doing for these beautiful animals…500 adoptions is an amazing accomplishment…three cheers for Ladybird!!!
Just a quick update on Will and Bitsy…they are both doing fabulous and thoroughly enjoying the spring weather, especially little Bitsy. She spends endless hours napping on the terrace in the sun, seems to be her favourite place these days…being the overly protective mommy that I am, I’ve taken to massaging her with coconut oil to protect her aging skin from the sun…maybe the massages are the reason she enjoys going out in the sun so much!! She’s kept her place as queen of the castle, bossing the big dogs around and keeping them in line. Will has accepted that although she is little she has the heart of a lion! On our walks Will always lets Bitsy walk in front of him, and patiently waits for his little sister to get the first treat every evening after dinner…it blows my mind how gentle and protective Will has become of his itsy Bitsy sister, nothing short of heart warming.
Health wise, she is excelling. Her little cough is pretty much non existent and she runs and plays like a puppy again…watching her little 8 pound frame prance delightfully alongside Will’s beastly 110 pound mass is adorable! We have yet to go on family walks without someone stopping to comment on the hilarity of the physical difference between the two dogs…and they both accept the attention whole heartedly!
Bitsy is getting used to road trips and weekends away, and lazy weekends at the cottage have become a favourite for both of the babies…Will napping under the big birch tree next to the lake while Bitsy prefers the comfort of her dog bed in the screened porch. And although Bitsy loves to run, she is really good at ignoring me when I call her back to me…this, of course, ensues a chase of endurance with me running after her like a fool across the property…all while big Will keeps a close eye to make sure we are both in safe distance.
At home, the dogs rule the house. Guests are forced to sit on dining chairs or the floor while Will and Bitsy command the space on the sofa…but in all truth, their comfort and happiness is more important so I allow this behaviour with a warm heart. They are my family and this is their home…our mantra is this “the dogs get the best seat in the house because they give the best love”. And when my daughter visits with her furry man….well, let’s just say it’s definitely a dogs life in these parts!!!
These furry little monsters have rescued me, not the other way around. It’s amazing what we can learn from these beautiful animals…unconditional love, loyalty, and an appreciation for the little things…like a tossed tennis ball or quiet cuddles. They have captured my heart, and having the opportunity to spoil them with love for the rest of their days is a grand blessing.
Again, many thanks to you for bringing such love into my home…before them it was just a house, they’ve now made it a home.
All our love,
Nicole, Will, and little Bitsy Boo (and Tyson the boxer too!!!)”
