Morgan
We rescued this gorgeous Yellow-Naped Amazon parrot from Mississauga Animal Services. He came in as a stray with a band on his leg, but when M.A.S. traced the band, they came up with a dead end at the breeder information. M.A.S. posted Morgan on several lost pet websites, including ones specifically for parrots, but nobody came forward to claim him.
Morgan is a sweet guy, as you can see from the videos, but he would do best in a home with someone who is experienced with parrots. Here’s a note from Morgan’s foster home:
“We have had some wonderful experience with this beautiful bird. I honestly don’t know why anyone would give him away.
Morgan loves almost any kind of food. He favourites to date are cauliflower, banana, apples, bread peppers and eggs. Although we limit the bread intake he always makes some noise if we are eating it with dinner :). He loves his toys and has had no problem with destruction lol. He is very friendly, and will sit on anyone’s arms. However if he get the slightest idea that you don’t know how to handle a bird he will pop up on your shoulder and be very difficult to remove. I am currently working on trying to get him to stay off people’s shoulders Stepping in when needed. He loves music and I swear he try’s to sing along with the tunes. If you want to hear him chatter turn on the vacuum, he really strikes up a conversation, but you must keep it running or he will just stop talking. He is very quiet and sleeps through the night and won’t make a peep unless he knows you’re up. He can however be very loud and as he gets more comfortable that is becoming more apparent, however it is nothing that you can’t handle as it’s mostly laughing and joking with him. He is a bird with a sense of humor!!
Kids, again he will go to children no problem, my 8 year old daughter has no problem taking him out of the cage, he will go straight for the shoulder and needs to be told to come off and then I remove him. But usually very gentle, he has nibbled her finger a little hard and when she cried he actually seemed very concerned at what had happened (I know that sounds crazy).
The only issue if I can even call it an issue with Morgan is that you really a need to know how to handle him. He gets very excited when he is on your arm and almost never wants to be out and on his cage…he always wants to be with someone. And although that is fine with our family it is a little hard when all he wants to do is sit up high on your shoulder. When you first take him out you need to be able to read his cues, he is very excited and has a tendency to bite. It’s not hard but if you don’t tell him that it hurts he will continue and his bites get a little harder. He does calm down and he then loves his head to be scratched. Honestly this is not a big deal, as we will work on this with him so he knows his manners before the adoption process begins. 🙂
This has been an amazing experience for our family and friends so far and we are so honoured to have him as part of our family. He truly is a beautiful and wonderful family pet.”
Morgan was adopted, but returned to us two weeks later as his adopters were not able to deal with how loud he is. It wasn’t too much later that he found his forever home with a lovely person. Yay Morgan!
From Morgan’s forever home:
“Morgan has settled in quite nicely. He is learning some new words and phrases (though I hope he can’t hear me in my office when I’m having a bad day!). He is starting to say “How are you” more clearly, and has so many different intonations for “hello” that I’m not sure where they came from! And he laughs! And laughs! He has also learned how to cough, which can be a bit disconcerting. He is still a bit of a biter, but I think he is getting better about that. He loves pepitas (pumpkin seeds), which he gets when he is a good boy, and he loves pomegranates too. And he loves to chew up toilet paper- and paper towel rolls. He loves my Dad (says “hello” just about every time he comes into the room), and seems to hate my Mom!”
