Katie
* Katie found her forever home with lovely people! You can follow Katie’s adventures in her forever home at the Facebook page of her brother Furiosa.
Ladybird rescued Katie from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray.
Katie was extremely thin when she arrived at HAC and staff were worried she might not make it. She started to eat (with help from staff) and re-gain some strength in the two weeks she spent at HAC before her rescue. She still had low body weight and now a protruding belly, but she seemed to be feeling a lot better.
On her rescue day, we took Katie straight to the vet and testing was done to see if she might have FIP. Thankfully, these initial tests were negative, and Katie stayed at the vet for observation for a few days and was then transferred to a foster home.
Katie has gone through many ups and downs with her health since her rescue. She has seen the vet many times and just when we think she’s doing better, she comes down with something else. Our vet has diagnosed her with a chronic upper respiratory virus. It causes her to sneeze and makes her eyes run. (This chronic version of the virus is not contagious to other cats.) This condition comes and goes. Katie also suffers from the occasional bout of constipation, causing her belly to swell. Her foster home has her strictly on canned food to help with this.
While she was under anesthetic for her spay surgery, our vet attempted to flush out her sinuses. Turns out one of her nostrils is blocked, possibly by nodes, but it doesn’t affect her negatively. It would be be beneficial for Katie to have her sinuses flushed once a year to help with the upper respiratory issue.
Katie has been a sweetheart through all of her ups and downs. She gets along really well with the other cats in her foster home and is a purry and happy kitten who makes friends easily.
In July 2021, Katie was our Forever Home Friday feature!
Here’s a note from Katie’s adopter:
“Katie is amazing.
When she first came to us, she was so shy and her eyes were big all the time. She has a chronic Sinus condition that still affects her. Our other cats, Furiosa and Yubnub welcomed her into the family pretty easily. And Katie immediately bonded with Furiosa, her favorite person in the world. She spends most of her time snuggling up to him and chasing Yubnub around. She also likes hanging out with her new brother Frankie.
She is the craziest, quirkiest cat we’ve ever met. She is constantly running down the hallway and skidding around corners and sometimes missing the doorway and running into the wall. She likes to carry her Mousies around and bring them to us for praise, while making silly noises.
Her nicknames are Lady Katie and Katie-butts. And now when she looks at us, she gives her happy Blinky eyes.“
