Holly
Ladybird rescued Holly from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. We were told that Holly had been hit by a car and was suffering from a broken tooth and some slight injuries to her mouth when she was picked up by animal control officers. Holly received minor vet care and was sent back to the shelter on pain medication to wait out her stray time. Despite her injuries, Holly was very friendly toward all the shelter staff and always had a head bonk and happy feet for everyone. When a foster home opened up, we were happy to rescue Holly, and we took her straight to the vet. When she was put under for surgery, it was discovered that there were a few more than one damaged tooth that needed to be removed, but thankfully, there were no broken bones in her jaw. Holly was also spayed while she was under and then sent to her foster home to recover. She healed well from her surgery and is now ready to find her forever home!
Holly gets along with the other cats in her foster home. She is a total love bug with everyone she meets! She’ll happily flop right over for belly rubs and lovin’. She’s such a lovely cat!
Here’s a note from Holly’s foster family:
“Holly is a funny, sweet, affectionate, curious, and mischievous little cat with a big personality. She made herself at home with us very quickly. She is a playful little girl who is not intimidated by our other (bigger and older) cats in the least….in fact, she sometimes keeps them in line. For such a tiny girl, she’s certainly not afraid to show them who is boss. J She is very affectionate, and loves chin scratches and smooches and curling up on your lap for a snooze. She also loves stretching out (flat on her back, paws in the air) in front of the fireplace for naps. She is an attention hound and LOVES belly rubs….she will get in your face and flop right in front of you, onto whatever you are doing (laptop, paperwork, etc…), demanding attention as she rolls around on her back and looks at you with those big round eyes of hers. WARNING: She’s very difficult to resist when she does this, and you will most likely stop whatever you are doing at the time to give her belly rubs. (She makes working from home very difficult). She is also a curious girl, who will follow you around everywhere you go….she always wants to know where you’re going and what you’re doing, and wants to be right there when you’re doing it. We think Holly would be fine with feline companions or as an only cat, as long as her humans give her sufficient attention. She is also gentle and would be great with kids. We don’t have any dogs, so I’m not sure how she would be around them, but she is young enough that as long as long as the dogs were not aggressive, she could probably get used to them. Overall, Holly is a lovely cat who would adapt well to many environments and would make a wonderful addition to any family.”
Holly found her forever home with lovely people!
February 2016 – Update from Holly’s forever home!
“Here is an update on how Holly has adjusted to her home:
When I got Holly home after picking her up and let her out of her carrier, she immediately started sniffing out my place. She briefly hid under my bed but came out as soon as she heard my getting her food ready lol. I have since learned that if Holly is scared, because she really doesn’t like loud noises (my vacuum cleaner, my vitamix, if my front door slams shut) she will run under my bed only to be coaxed back out with a little treat. She has also successfully cleaned out all the dust balls that were hiding under my bed.
She has been the sweetest to me since day 1- she has never scratched or bit me. She LOVES belly rubs and has the most hilarious way of just flopping down on the floor and landing with her feet in the air and her belly exposed.
If I’m in a room, you can bet Holly is close by. Her favourite place to be during the day is on my bed, probably because she have the whole bed to herself. In the morning and evenings, she is often perched on the back of my couch where she can both nap and keep an eye on things. She is both an investigator and sidekick, following me around just in case I might feed her a treat or maybe do something suspicious lol. Her best friend is a catnip taco, which I attached a pic. She is often hugging it, sitting on it, batting it with her paws, etc.
She sleeps with me every night, often starting at the foot of my bed and then moving up beside my head so she can also rest her head on my pillow. She does the same flop beside my face that she does when she wants a belly rub. I have woken up many times in the night with Holly just flopping herself beside my face and I inhaled a mouthful of fur.
Overall, she is doing amazing! She seemed anxious for about a week but now seems to have settled in nicely to our quiet life. I think she enjoys my undivided attention, in fact, she demands it lol. If I’m busy for too long, she’ll start meow squawking at me and jump in front of whatever I’m doing as if to say, “hey, would you pet me already?? What’s wrong with you, don’t you see how cute I am?”. It’s nearly impossible to do work from home as Amie said since she just flops down on whatever you’re working on.
Thank you all for everything that you have done for Holly and allowing me to be a part of her life. I am so happy with her, and hopefully she doesn`t mind my company either. 🙂
I look forward to supporting Ladybird Animal Sanctuary in the future for all the wonderful work that you do!”
January 2020 Update from Holly’s adopter
“Hi Ladybird and Amy,
Just wanted to give you an update on Holly, my kitty I adopted from Ladybird in 2016. She’s approaching her 4 year adoptaversary (on January 31) and I am so grateful for her everyday. While I did my best to not become a crazy cat lady, it happened anyway. My living room carpet is now an assortment of cardboard boxes, scratching posts, cat beds, and crinkle toys. And cat hair everywhere. Seriously, her hair is so full and luscious, she should be a model for some feline version of Pantene.
She is so sweet and affectionate, and I’m very happy to say that she is now a lap cat (although she prefers when I’m reclined and she can sit on my stomach or chest). At night, I frequently wake up to a tiny kitty donut curled on my stomach but since she’s still a small girl, she rarely wakes me. And about 6 months after I adopted her, she started to purr. Just like dainty Miss Holly, her purr is also quite dainty and quirky.
She is so spoiled and has her own stocking for Christmas, and she travels with me when I go to visit my mom. Because as much as she isn’t a fan of her carrier, she hates it even more if I leave her behind.
Thank you again for all that you do- I can honestly say that Holly is loved to the moon and back and she has brought me so much joy.
Sincerely,
Janette and Holly”
