Libby

We rescued Libby from Hamilton Animal Control where she found herself as a stray. Libby is very thin, dehydrated, mostly blind, and is in desperate need of dental care. We know that she once belonged to someone since she came into HAC already spayed, declawed and microchipped. Unfortunately, the microchip company was unable to give HAC any information at all for the chip as the number comes up “invalid” on their end. Nobody came to HAC looking for Libby, so we’ll never know for sure who she belongs to or why she ended up a stray. We can only guess that her previous owners may have decided to abandon her because of her poor health.
We took Libby straight from HAC to the vet. She’s getting much needed fluids and will have tests done to see why she is so thin. Hopefully once she’s healthy enough, she’ll be able to have dental surgery done to relieve her pain.

After more than a week at the vet and many tests and treatments, we now know what was making Libby so ill. She’s in late stage kidney failure. Though she is eating on her own now and is feeling much better than she was when we rescued her, Libby’s condition is such that she will not be a candidate for adoption. Instead, Libby will become a Ladybird Permanent Resident. She’ll stay in a foster home under Ladybird’s care until her health becomes such that we need to make a decision about her quality of life.
But for now, she’s up and about, purring and being super snuggly with the clinic staff. She no longer needs a constant IV, so she’s being discharged from the vet tomorrow.
We have a foster home lined up for Libby who is willing to take on administering the many medications she will require, and who can get her to vet visits. We’re so thankful for our awesome foster homes!
We’re sad that Libby’s owners abandoned her at the time in her life when she needed them most, but we’re happy we could get her out of Hamilton Animal Control and get her the help she desperately needed. And we’re more than happy to give her a warm and comfortable place to live out the rest of her days.

Libby spent a few weeks being spoiled in her foster home until yesterday, when her health took a turn for the worse. Her foster mom took her to the vet and it was pretty obvious that Libby was now fully suffering the effects of her kidney disease. With many tears, Libby was euthanized to end her pain.
We are so thankful that we could give Libby the love and care she needed, even if it was for only the month and a half that she was with us. It’s easy to get angry at her previous owners for abandoning her at the time when she needed them most, but we’re happy that she was in the arms of someone who loved her at the end. We want to send a big hug and a thank you to Libby’s foster mom for taking Libby in, knowing that she would be a difficult kitty to foster health wise, and also knowing that Libby wouldn’t be with us for very long. We know Libby’s foster mom is missing sweet Libby right now, and our hearts go out to her.
Thanks also to all those who sent well wishes and donations towards Libby’s care. We very much appreciate your support. We couldn’t rescue any animals without your help, especially animals like Libby, who need our help so desperately.
Rest in peace little Libby.
