Lennox
We rescued Lennox from Hamilton Animal Control. Lennox was found as a stray, but he was already neutered, so he belonged to someone at some point. Lennox’s back end was so matted when he arrived at HAC, he had to be sent to the vet to be shaved down. Poor guy must have been in pain for a long time! He was very thin, his remaining coat was in rough shape and his teeth were horrible. Despite his obvious state of neglect, Lennox was a sweet old guy. He purred and head bonked through his whole rescue, and his first vet visit. What a doll he was…
Our vets wanted Lennox to gain a bit of weight before performing the dental surgery he so desperately needed. Blood tests were run, and they showed levels consistent with a kidney issue, but nothing serious enough to be alarmed about. So, Lennox was sent to his foster home to get fattened up. After about three weeks in his foster home, his fur was looking better, and he seemed to be doing well. But then Lennox’s health took a turn for the worse. He started drinking excessively and urinating on his foster mom’s couch, bed and wherever else he slept. He just didn’t seem his sweet old self. After two more trips to the vet, blood tests showed the kidney issues had progressed rapidly, and an x-ray revealed a very large tumour in Lennox’s abdomen. Because of his age and other health issues, surgery to remove the tumour was not an option. And with a tumour that size, Lennox was likely feeling pain and pressure on his internal organs. As much as we wanted to help him feel better, his quality of life was poor, and there weren’t any options at that point to try to make it better.
After much discussion with our vets and Lennox’s foster mom, we made the heavy hearted decision to let Lennox go to relieve his pain.
We had certainly wished for a better outcome when we rescued this friendly old guy, but we’re happy we could provide him the love and care he deserved for the month he was with us.
Rest in peace sweet Lennox. We’ll never forget your sweet face.
