Gord
*Gord found his forever home with lovely people!*
We rescued Gord from Hamilton Animal Control.
Gordie and his sibling were abandoned in a box in a park in Hamilton. When Animal Control officers arrived to pick them up, they discovered that both rabbits were emaciated, dehydrated and very ill. Sadly, Gord’s sibling was already too far gone and had to be humanely euthanized to end his suffering.
Thankfully the staff at HAC were able to give Gord some sub-Q fluids and a heating pad to get him feeling a bit better after his arrival. For the first couple of days, HAC staff weren’t sure Gord was going to make it…but with their care and attention, he pulled through!
Gord is a sweet little bunny. He was still quite thin when we rescued him, but he was eating, drinking and using the litter box normally. We’re so glad he is feeling better thanks to staff at HAC, our vets and his awesome foster home!
Being just a baby, Gord had already been through so much in his short time on this earth. We want him to find a forever home who will give him the love and care he so deserves, and who will be sure he never ends up starving and abandoned again…
Here’s a note from Gord’s foster home from when he first arrived at their home:
“Gord is a sweetheart! He loves to hop around our home and cuddle. He is eager to get out of his enclosure and explore our home and we make sure he gets many hours of exploring time as possible (4+ hours a day). I often sit on the floor with him and he runs around the room and when he tires, he comes over and sits right against me and enjoys some pats and ear strokes. Since he is a baby, we keep a close eye on him because he tries to do adult rabbit things like jump on the couch and use the stairs. He will be able to do both unassisted shortly but at the moment he is too small. Gord is very good with other rabbits and he is very interested in befriending our blind senior cat who does his best not to get too annoyed. His persistence in befriending our cat speaks to Gord’s gutsy nature and perseverance.
We have been working on litter training her and he has made great strides. Within a week, he has started to use only his litter box for number #1 and is getting better at using only his litter for #2. I suspect his litter box success will only increase as he grows.
Gord loves to eat! He enjoys pellets and hay and gets really excited at feeding time. He also loves all rabbit friendly veggies, herbs and fruits. His favourites are basil, dill, raspberries and carrots. Since he is a growing boy we make sure he has plenty of food and hay all day and we give him a big handful of greens and add some herbs or a slice of fruit at bedtime.
Gord isn’t too much of a fan of toys but he loves cardboard boxes and his tunnel. He also has a stuffy white rabbit that he playfully throws around his enclosure.
Gord isn’t a bunny who enjoys being ‘caged in”. If you are looking for a free range rabbit who lives in an enclosure at nighttime and when you are out of the house but who roams freely when you are home, Gord is your man! This sweet little (soon to be big) boy is really lovely and looking for his forever home.”
And a more recent update:
“When Gord came to us he was just a little baby bun but now he is a big, 10lbs, strong rabbit but don’t let his large size fool you, he is a softy! He LOVES to cuddle and will often lay down beside anyone who is willing to give him cheek or head scratches. He doesn’t mind being picked up and enjoys cuddling into your neck. As you might have guessed, he adores attention. He even likes to be brushed especially if he has some greens to munch on while he is getting groomed.
Gord is a great eater but especially enjoys his veggie, fruit and leafy greens.
Gord loves to hop around and play. He get very excited to see him my husband and I in the morning and binkies multiple times just to show us how happy he is. He does the same thing when we greet him after work. When he is out of his enclosure, he enjoys venturing around the house. He has no problem transitioning between carpeted and hardwood floors and enjoys sitting on the couch. When Gord is not binkying around our home, he likes to nap in his enclosure all stretched out.
Gord isn’t a bunny who likes toys but he does like tunnels and boxes to play with. He also likes to play with the cat he lives with and is good with other female bunnies. He would do well on his own or with another female.
Gord would also be a great bunny for a family who is willing to show him lots of love. He enjoys playing with our nieces (5 and 8 years old) and is always gentle. As stated earlier, he just loves all the attention he can get!”
