Copper
* Copper found his forever home with lovely people! *
We rescued Copper from Hamilton Animal Control. He came into HAC as a stray. Copper’s owners were notified that he was at the shelter, but they never showed up to claim him.
We placed Copper in a foster home where he has a big back yard to explore and a senior dachshund to be friends with. A few days later, Copper went into the vet for a much needed dental surgery. While trying to intubate, the vet ran into a problem. Turns out Copper had a toonie size piece of bone lodged in his throat. We have no idea how long the bone had been stuck there, but it was likely for quite some time. He hadn’t had this type of bone since he came into Animal Control back in July, so we will never know exactly how long it was there. Our vets were thankful we brought Copper in for the dental surgery, as this bone was probably causing him a lot of discomfort, and could have eventually killed him. Aside from the surprise bone removal, Copper had four rotten teeth removed and a dental cleaning. He had a follow-up appointment a few days later and our vets gave him the all clear to go ahead to start the search for his forever home!
Here’s a report from Copper’s foster family:
“Copper is such a nice fellow. Anyone who has a good home for him will be lucky to have him. He would love a home where people are home a lot. He is desperate to hang out with humans! He isn’t hard of hearing, as was first thought, and is a perfect gentleman with even tiny kids. He has not tried to take food from Jackson (his foster brother dachshund) until after Jackson has clearly abandoned it. He definitely should not live with cats or rodents or other small creatures. He walks very well on the leash and loves to go for any kind of walk. He loves to fetch and tug, but we have been taking it easy on that because of his surgery.
Copper was very patient and sat like an angel for all his photos for the upcoming holiday and festive seasons!”
