Travis
We rescued Travis from Mississauga Animal Services. Travis was surrendered to MAS by his owners when they could no longer care for him. He’s a very friendly bunny and soooo soft!
Here’s a note from Travis’ foster home:
“Travis is a very sweet boy who loves, loves, loves to be petted! He will sit for as long as you are willing to pet him and “purrs” the whole time. And because he’s a Rex, he is extremely soft.
At first he seemed eager to try and escape his enclosures, but now he is quite content in them but he does like to explore when given the chance. I think he might like to be a free-range bunny, but would be happy to spend part of each day in enclosures. He is very inquisitive and smart – nothing gets by Travis! He seems to like other animals a lot, coming over right away whenever either of my cats walks by.
Travis is litter trained but is admittedly not 100% accurate. He also loves to eat! Celery is his very favourite, and he also likes cauliflower and all kinds of lettuce – romaine, mixed greens and kale. He doesn’t seem to like fruit, just the occasional piece of apple. He loves hay, particularly when it’s tucked inside a toilet paper roll for an extra mental challenge. I wasn’t sure if Travis liked to play, but it turns out he does – with the right toys. He has a ball with a bell inside that he loves to carry in his mouth and run around with, it is positively adorable!
Early on, Travis was occasionally territorial of his things and his personal space so his new family might need to be patient with him in the beginning. Recently he’s been very easy-going so I think he just needs some time to fully trust new people. If you are looking for a bunny who will be great company and let you pet him for hours on end, Travis is your boy!”
Our fostered rabbits are housed in x-pens or similar enclosures so they have lots of room to move around when they aren’t out for floor time. Commercially made pet store rabbit cages are far too small to allow rabbits to stretch out and move around with ease.
Here are some great websites outlining alternative rabbit housing using x pens and similar enclosures.
